It should be noted that many people in this town have been needlessly audited due to the incompetance of a local tax firm. Beware of mailing discount coupons, and promises of rapid refunds, since the firm making these promises has been reported as making numerous errors, and causing costly corrections for its unsuspecting customers.

The same thing happened to us, but I thought our case was isolated. We were contacted by the IRS who needed ALL of our data and receipts for the past 2 years, which coincidence or not, those 2 years the same firm handled our quick refund. We were slapped with fines and penalties galore, and I too would like to say ..beware .

You post this for people to beware and you don't mention the name of the business for us to beware of. How the hell is that worth anything.

The tax service to watch out for is Jackson Hewitt. It is a franchise that definately needs to be investigated for inaccurate returns with numerous errors reported to the IRS.

Thanks for the warning, we'll be sure to avoid that place and will pass it on.

Wow It's crazy that 4 people all with their ip addresses from Fredericktown had a bad experience with the same place. I myself have had my tax returns done their the last 3 years and found them very helpful. I'm going to give you a heads up. All accountants have errors. They're no different then doctors, attorneys or any other profession. If you had a bad experience with them fine but I would be curious to know where are all these "reported errors" are from.

If your return was really audited did you turn it into the main office for audit assistance? Or are you the young lady that was fired this season for breaking the rules, trying to trash us. I work for Jackson Hewitt and we are subject to IRS audits as are all tax preparation firms.

Doesn't Jackson Hewitt cover any penalties or fees that occur if they make an error on a return? That's why you go to an accountant or tax service.

Do you not like money off on your fees if not throw away the coupon. Rapid refunds aren't received if your credit is bad because it is a loan through the bank against your refund. Or if you owe back taxes, child support etc.. the bank will not give you a refund anticipation loan or rapid refund as you call it because they may never get their money.

Yes Jackson Hewitt covers penalties and interest if it is the preparer's error not if the client misinforms the preparer. They also have the Gold Gaurantee which covers up to $5000 for errors plus the Basic Gaurantee which pays penalties and interest.

Tell us exactly exactly what was wrong with your return. Beware, Cindy and victim sound like the same person. If you have axe to grind take it up with the person face to face instead of trashing the Jackson Hewitt firms. By the way, did you claim children for earned income credit and you weren't entitled to it. Did you claim deductions you couldn't prove to the IRS? Did you hide some of your income? Did the IRS keep your refund for back child support or taxes you owed? Tell us the truth, don't talk just talk trash.

we had the same problem.. my boyfriend and I went in and filed at the same time claiming our child they said one of us could claim him as the dependent and the other as parent for the child income tax... then they called the next day said that they made a mistake and went ahead even though it affected both of us.. filed one of ours without even asking if thats what we wanted and now were getting audited... and instead of getting back like 3,600 we are paying alot more...is there somewhere to complain

For years I used H&R Block and never really had any problems untill about 6 years ago when they made a mistake by not giving me the right information and then told me there was nothing they could do to help me except give the number to the IRS but they still charged me for the time they spent working on my return, their commercial says "We got people" but thats only during tax season, after that your on your own. So the next year I tried Jackson Hewitt because they are a Franchise which means they are usualy localy owned and operated by people that live in your community instead of a big corporation so they have an intrest in giving good service and they have allways done a great job for me, during tax season they feed you and give you bevrages while you wait, they had movies and coloring books to keep my kids occupied, I didnt have to make a appointment or drop it off, my preparer helped me find deductions I didnt know about & they offer a Gaurantee on their work and are open year around in case you need them or have questions before or after tax season, some people claim they charge to much but I never felt like I was paying to much for the service I was receiving, remember you get what you pay for, so I felt like I got my moneys worth, I mean really what more could they do to keep me coming back? Some people are just never happy but as for me I am very pleased!
so what

Just because it is a franchise does not guarantee anything! So what if they have coloring books and drinks....you'd think you could at least spell when serving those "bevrages"! And YES, you do get what you pay for, point taken.

Please excuse my typo but all I tried to do was share my opinion, sorry it was not as negative as you would have liked! But ignorance will never get you very far, it sounds to me like you are someone who could never be pleased any how. Since you seem to know it all you should do it yourself next time or maybe you are just a disgrunteled employee who got fired because you are not competent enough to do your job or just to lazy. Dont like the coloring books? Whats the matter are you not able to stay inside the lines? Its ok some would say your just being your creative little self, just like your being creative with the BS you are trying to start on this site, as far as the drinks go maybe you could do everyone a favor and go shove your complaints up your ass and jump off a bridge and end your depressing life. You think you could claim all the klenex you used to dry the tears from all the crying you are doing as a deduction? Just a idea...
