Absolutely! Now I would consider a small wack on the behind child abuse unless of course it gets out of hand, but slapping a child across the face is just horrible, and the parent should be arrested for child abuse.

Definition of Physical Abuse:

The National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect defines child physical abuse as: "The physical injury or maltreatment of a child under the age of eighteen by a person who is responsible for the child's welfare under circumstances which indicate that the child's health or welfare is harmed or threatened thereby..."

Examples of Physical Abuse include:

Beating with a belt, shoe, or other object; Biting a child; Breaking a child's arm, leg, or other bones; Burning a child with matches or cigarettes; Hitting a child; Kicking a child; Not letting a child eat, drink, or use the bathroom; Pulling a child's hair out; Punching a child; Scalding a child with water that is too hot; Shaking, shoving, or slapping a child.

The parent or caretaker need not have intended to hurt the child for it to constitute physical abuse

Any form of discipline borders on child abuse when it is done out of anger. Locking a child in their room in anger can be child abuse, too, if it is taken to an extreme.

Smacking a mouth for using bad language is acceptable if it is not done out of anger. Spanking a bottom is acceptable if not done out of anger. A hallmark of whether it is done in anger would be whether there is physical damage to the child: bruising, bloodying, swelling.

Slapping a child in not abuse. When I mouthed my parents they slapped me in the mouth. I don't hate them for it, however, I respect them for it. It has made me a productive member of society. If parents don't discipline their children the police WILL. Call your juvenile office or police department. Ask them if slapping your child is abuse. They will tell you no.

i have asked a few cops and social workers the same thing. in public or at home, you can spank your child.if its needed and IF you dont break their skin. i have seen some bad ass whoopings. a little girl 1 year old. parents that wanted her potty trained. poor little baby got her butt beat with a belt and forced to sit on the toilet (full sized barely able to keep from falling in) until she went potty. her bottom was bruised for weeks. i was so young i didnt know i could call the welfare hotline.

the little girl is very respectful of her elders now. no more abuse as far as i know.

but spanking your kid for drawing on the wall or endangering himself by running off at the store is NOT abuse. in fact i have had officers tell me that they would rather a kid get spankings now in hopes it will teach him there are consequences. too often though a typical spanking will get a parent in big trouble while child abuse goes unreported.

do what you think is right.

I didn't get many spankings as a child, but when I did it was with a belt or switch from a tree...& as a teen I did get slapped in the face a few times for mouthing....I don't think it damaged me for life but I have not & will not resort to that extreme with my kids.
They're pretty good so far, btw. lol

This is why our jails and detention homes are full,no one wants to make their kids mind anymore and the ones that do get reported. I was spanked as a child and had my mouth spatted for talking back. When it's done the right way most children think twice before they do this again.....Spare the rod spoil the child........

i totally agree. every one is too scared to spank their child for fear of it being reported. so the kids keep acting stupid as the years go by. then they are adults acting stupid.

yes i agree they don't want us to spank our children or make them go to there room for punishment but as soon as they turn 18 and can do as they please and have not been taught that nothing bad goes unpunished they will take your child and beat them up and lock them away in an 8' by 6' room and take away there constitutional rights as an American citizen.so over crowed the jails and keep our kids locked up because we were not allowed to punish them.NO SPANKING!!!!

Let's say you are 70 when your child is 50. When you do something stupid, is it gonna be ok for him to slap the shit out of you? If you raise your child properly and adhere to love and common sense, you may have better results than physical force.

Physical punishment is illegal in most other countries and over half of the U.S. has outlawed it in schools. Only the dumb-ass southern states still allow this nonsense.
My daughter is 17 years old, very well behaved, respectable, and a straight A student. We could not be more proud of her. She is emotionally healthy, kind, and has a great empathy for others.
She was not ever spanked growing up because striking someone to intimidate and gain control of the situation is not the lesson I wanted to teach her. Losing control of oneself and resorting to violence is unacceptable in our household.
Parents spank because they are lazy and it is the fastest way to gain control of the situation.
You can't smack around on your spouse or the elderly; why do we still think it is okay to do this to children? If you kick a dog you are going to get in trouble for animal cruelty, but you can use physical force with your child? This makes no sense to me...

when its done right? so is there a book i can go out and buy so that i may learn how to beat up my kids the right way?

i know for a fact you do not have to hit or spank a child to teach/punish them.

and for kicks and grins i googled it and sure enough there are some sites.. which taking a look at one i couldn't help but to laugh a little.

A Parent's Rules for Spanking: The Correct Way to Spank Your Child

scroll down to no. 1
"But for major infractions, such as theft, fighting, incorrigible lying, etc., they will be spanked."

so the punishment for fighting is that you get to be hit on. nice

I have slapped my kids lightly on the cheek. Not a biotch slap or back handed. When your child is mouthing and will not stop a pop in the mouth or a light slap on the cheek seems to do the trick. I very seldom spank. I do not think I should be arressted for child abuse. That is nuts.
