I was wondering if anyone knows what the STARTING salary (per hour) comparisons are between PBRMC, VA Hospital, St Francis Medical Center, Southeast Missouri Hospital. Also, for instance at PBRMC, is there a different pay scale if you work in the ICU, 3rd wing, pediatrics, SDS, etc...?

I live in bluff, but work at St. Francis Medical Center. The have great tuition payback up to 15,000 for a 3 year commitment. Quarterly bonuses as long as patient satisfaction is above 90% which it should be, and are a loving family to work for. I do work full time weekend option so I make pretty good money, but I love what I do. I just graduated Dec. 2006 and have been there since May of 2005 as an extern. Maybe we can talk. You could be a referral for me if you decide to come work with us. We can figure out how to exchange info it you want.

Why don't you call the human resources office at these hospitals and get correct up-to-date factual information instead of getting opinions here?

I have some good ideas about RN salaries that Human Resource offices will tell you over the phone. Not all have been consistent with what I have been told by some friends that became RNs and were hired by two of the aforementioned hospitals. There starting (new grad) salaries are different from what they were told a year ago. So instead of driving to Cape to see if working over there is worth the gas money, and calling their HR department to hear a "general" figure I thought I could post a question on here for anybody with credible info that could share it. So, their "factual up-to-date" info is not always that.

Anybody know starting salaries for new grad RNs?

The Va may not be as comparable for new grad hires, but the long term benefits are worth it and so is the pay in the long run!

Rn for one year-

I am a RN student and would love to work at the VA. I have been an LPN for about 8 years now and I check the job postings from time to time but there does not seem to be many postings for nurses. It sounds like you work at the VA. If so, could you tell me if it was hard to get on there and what the work and positions are like?

Yes I do, we are in staffing crunch right now, unfortunately have been under a hiring freeze. Today there was openings set for RN in urgent care and RN on acute care. There is rarely openings for LPNs, though I do know there are positions needed filled. I love it here, good luck!

it's not how much you get paid, it's if you believe in where you work. in my opinion, i could never work in a pb hospital.

I graduated may 2009. Started my career as an RN at ST Francis. My starting pay with 5 yrs experience as an LPN was $22.81. I have a friend who works at Bluff, has been there several years and only makes $18.00. I am no longer at St Francis due to the drive being about an hour and a half from my home, and the fact I was place on 2AB with a supervisor named Janet I was told horrible things about, including if I ever wanted to transfer to another floor or department she would make it impossible by giving even the best nurse a horrible reference. Just a little advice.....check around before making a decision there are a ton of jobs for RN's....I now work in my home town making more working days than I did on swing shift at St Francis.....make sure you think long and hard before signing a contract to have student loans payed off. Once you sign that contract if you quit before your time is in the payment to the hospital is ridiculous I'm talking $500 plus per month!!! Good Luck!!

It's a shame the hospital here doesn't have surveillence. There might be a few more job openings.
