Am I the only one who thinks they're over rated? Yeah, they're easy to shoot,TOO EASY! With no external safety and that hair trigger, you are asking for trouble! I personally know a SWAT cop that accidently shot himself in the leg with his G21. What does that tell you? GLOCKS SUCK!

I thought I was the only person that felt that way. I'd take a XD or one of the many fine Sig models over a Glock. That's just polymers, I won't even get into a metal vs polymer free-for-all.

Nope your not alone. Springfield XD was my choice. It actually too has no external manual saftey on most models. But it does have the grip saftey like the 1911

Even though now you can buy the 45acp with or without the manual saftey button.

But it wouldn't bother me to carry a Glock I just didn't like the feel of the angle of the grip when I brought it up to target

I hear that Doug Beavers in Doniphan is a good Gunsmith. Haven't tried or talked to him yet. But I'll probably be getting ahold of him when I get off the boat. I have a nylon Rem 66 I got as a basket case and it's suppose to be missing a spring.

I'll be sending my XD compact to
Canyon Creek this winter for a trigger job and night sites

Smith's M&P line is great, easily the best polymer S&W has ever produced. I'd still take a Springfield over the M&P, but I'm glad Glock no longer has the polymer market in a stranglehold. I used to own a Glock 19 and I hated it. I heard it (19) was the worst offering Glock ever produced, but it chased me from the brand forever. I traded the G19 for a Ruger 95 and a little boot and couldnt have been happier. That was years ago and I never looked back.

I have a Mini 14 soaking in KRON oil.
I am not a fan of .223, but I got a good deal on a pre-ban rifle. I rarely took it to the range.
I kept it in the corner of the spare bedroom for about a year. One day, a friend wanted to shoot his AR, so I went to get my Mini 14.
It was a solid block of rust. The bolt was rusted into the chamber, and it totally looked trashed.
Was their a leak in the roof, above that corner? Oh, there was a leak alright. For over a year, eveyday, Blackie, my would-have-been-put-to-death-a t-the-pound-before-I-rescued-h im, looks-like-a minature-doberman-with-a-fat-h ead, had been leaking on the Mini-14. I have no idea why he found that rifle pleasing to relieve himself upon, but he did.
I have had it in KRON oil for a couple months. I am hesitant to take a look at it. If I took it to a armorer, it would probably cost a fortune to have it restored.
I love Blackie, I didn't kill him. A good dog is hard to find.

I have been in law enforcement for almost twenty years now.
In my opinion the Glock was made as a replacement for the revolver. Something simple to learn, load and shoot because so many who are now entering law enforcement know little or nothing about firearms.

I have carried a Glock before (Department issue and required carry) but hate them with a passion.
Just let me carry either a Browning, Hi-Power. A Model 1911A1. Or a Smith & Wesson, Model 65,.357 magnum.

Has anyone seen the new Taurus PT845? It's polymer with an accessory rail and interchangable backstraps. The safety, slide stop, and magazine release are on both sides of the frame, and you can carry it hammer down double action or cocked&locked. It holds 12 rounds of .45ACP,and retails for $674. MUCH better than a Glock! If I was going to go polymer,I think I would go with either it,an XD,or an M&P. But I'm QUITE happy with my 1911!

I have a Glock 19. It's an older model that doesn't have a rail, but that's Ok, I don't have any accessories that hang on the rail. My Glock doesn't have a hair trigger, and the thing is, you can drop it in the creek, sand and mud, shake the water out and shoot it if need be. I have an 18 round clip that seems like it shoots all day long.

No manual safety, but several built in safeties. The gun will not fire unless the trigger is pulled from the center.

There was a you tube video going around a couple of years ago of a cop who shot himself in the foot with a .40 cal glock in front of a classroom full of students. Fools are among us. He gets the gun with the actions open (magazine in?). He releases the slide, says he's the only one professional enough to handle a Glock 40, then shoots himself in the foot.

Kimber ultra carry. A lot of safety features, but they are very easy and natural to turn off with your normal grip. Pricey, but nice.

A good 1911 is tough to beat. The only drawback I can think of is capacity, but that's really not an issue when you consider the average gunfight only lasts 2 shots.

I think the XD40 springfield is a fine pistol. Really have no experience with the glocks. Currently I have a smith and wesson sigma sw40ve. This gun fits my hand perfectly, shoots great but the trigger pull is horrendous. If it had a better trigger it would be an excellent firearm. Like many others it has no external safety. This gun fits good, shoots good, has never failed to feed or fire but the trigger definitely needs work. Any suggestions on who locally can do a trigger job?

I don't know about locally for you, but Norman Weaver in Bloomfield is very good. I've never had him do a trigger job, but I'm certain that ol' guy can do just about anything needed. Truly a dying breed.

Yeah. My Ruger Blackhawk .357 magnum is the gun I would prefer in a gunfight. It's only six shots, but it only takes one to stop the action right now! And I can put all six in a paper plate at 25 yards. Reach out and touch someone. Problem is with a six and a half inch barrel on a large frame pistol, there is no conceal.
