There are several faith based addiction programs as well that I have heard good things about. Fellowship Baptist, Mt. Calvary,& Westwood Baptist all have one.

I'm in recovery for both drugs and alcohol. This is my opinion only but I believe if someone is an addict only the best chance for recovery is NA and faith based. AA is for the alcoholic. I've been around the rooms of AA for a while and it seems that if you are just an addict AA won't keep you clean. NA will!!!!

Just my two cents.

I was in AA yrs ago & had made friends with 2 women who were addicts, not alcoholics. But at the time they refused to go to the NA meetings because thats where everyone knew where & how to get drugs and advice on how to "pass"urine test for their PO,s.When the girls spoke to our group and was told they couldnt be there unless they specified they didnt want to drink. It was how they worded it that gave them the right to sit thru our meetings. For instance"Hi,my name is Jane and I choose not to drink today".By letting them attend our meetings they did really good.1 eventually slipped back but the other got a governors pardon for her past drug charges and went on to become a regigesterd nurse. We use to say,a drug is a drug is a drug....

You know I have always been a bit puzzled.

Why should we give addicts and convicted felons a "chance". Take the pardon and the woman becoming a nurse.

If you had a chance to hire someone who has never been in trouble and never used drugs wouldn't it make more sense to hire them?

A felon comes in looking for work what is he bringing to the job that someone with a clean record doesn't make a better choice?

The pool for employment is to big to risk hiring retreads...

What gargage gets attracted to the Na meetings in St Petersburg Florida. Ex cons, prositutes, mental defectives all on food stamps and disability! The people dont work and go to meetings 3 times a day and share how their higher power is so good to them? No car, an Obama phone, no job, no hope, kids that hate them, criminal records, truly scum of the earth a waste of oxygen and toliet paper! The Tera Nova club on Central Ave in St Petersburg attracts the most vile people I have ever seen. Someone shit in the sink in the bathroom and put soap detergent in the coffee! Every other word out of the people sharing there is Freaking this, Freaking that! What a bunch of NA losers!

the challenge is an addict faces in this world today is ridiculous what people seem to not realize is that people with addictions that are working a program or much harder worker than what people want to seem to realize. it takes a lot of hard work to remain sober and clean. and most addicts are the hardest working people you'll ever meet

I was at the Tera Nova Club on Central Ave and someone shared about how he was homeless because the property manager at the sober living house he was staying relapsed and smoked everyone's rent money and lost the house. He also beat up his girlfriend who left him and his daughter. He went to jail and got out and now he is all strung out on the pipe again! Thats what happens when you smoke crack! Everyone is so dissapointed!-I quess he fucked it up with one thought!
