I actually went and toured the place also and really liked it. I moved away from bluff so I didnt enroll my son and that is the only reason. I have several friends who work there, I honestly think it would be a great place to send your kids. The security system in amazing! They can do no wrong to the kids! Plus I totally trust the people who work there!

As with any business, you are only as strong as your weakest link. I both worked there and sent my children there and I can tell you that Karen is very professional and strives to provide the most conducive learning environment. That being said, childcare has a very high turnover rate and there will always be a bad apple that will give the rest a bad name. Last I heard, they were in the process of getting accredited, which is a higher standard of child care. The best thing you can do at any place you take your children is get to know the people directly taking care of them. Karen herself will tell you to drop in for surprise visits during the most stressful times of the day and see how they handle it. The only complaint I could air is that I didn't feel like the children got enough to eat, but that is my personal opinion. They are on a government funded food program and are only allotted so much per child. I worked there and at several other child care centers and I can say that Karen was the most fair of all of the directors I've worked for.

As for the care my children received, they were involved in activities and received one on one attention daily. Everyone there addressed them by name and greeted them and they were patted to sleep during nap. They do personal assessments and try to individualize as much as possible for each child. Music and art and messy play are incorporated in their lessons. I like the way the infant/toddler classes are split up into several ages. It is a VERY clean place. I know from working there that there is a long list of detailed cleaning that must be done daily, which is good. Hope that helps!

My kids went there before and the comment about the food was certainly true, they were always starving when I would pick them up, and I think the owner Karen has a shady past

Her name is Janice Miller. You can also find a lot of info on http://www.moccrrn.org/

Karen does have some skeletons, but it was a domestic issue years and years ago. We have seen differently on things before, but as I said, she is professional and operates fairly.

I worked for them and I think that the kids are a little too structured for my liking. Almost like prisoners. but this was many years ago.

That will happen with any daycare. You can't get 20 kids of the same age to stay calm for up to ten hours a day without keeping the class very structured. Accreditation is pushing for a more home like environment though, so I'm sure that will change. Lower lighting, neutral colors, calm music, etc. If you are looking for a smaller, more laid back setting, Southern Charm would interest you. Not as big of a push on education, but smaller classes and a lot more one on one time.

Not too long ago one of the teachers tried killing herself in the bathroom there. Not sure if she's still around or not.

I doubt she is still there. They couldn't possibly justify having someone that unstable around all those children.

I cant think of her name right now sorry. If I remember it I'll let you know. It's been at least a year I think since it happened.

They did not fire her for it I know. She was still allowed to work there after the fact. However, I don't know if she is still there or not.

Ok just so everyone knows. I worked there when the worker did what she did. She did not continue working there after it happened. She has been gone since it happened. As to the care that your children get. There are going to be ups and downs everywhere you go. Karen is very structured. For my sons she is too structured. She has people that work there that have drinking problems and drug issues. They have been there for years and she has never done anything about it. Once again this is not rumor it is fact from working there and then having my children there. I will never send my children back to that daycare. If Karen wants to be in charge of everything that people do then maybe she needs to go work in a prison. She forgets that these are children.

I agree with you totally. You do have to have control over a classroom and you want them to learn but everyone is pushing these poor little Kid's for more structure, more learning. Why can't you just let them be little while they can.You can teach them as they play. It does not have to be sit down and do this or that. Give them a break. They will only be little once. You don't get another chance so try to do it right.

my daughter went there when we first moved here a cpl yrs a go. the security was FAKE. there were always kids wondering around and not in their classes. the teachers didnt know where they were. my daughter was being potty trained at the time, and when I picked her up she had poop running down her legs they told me they had taken her very 30 mins to the bathroom, but there is NO way. A friend of mine was working there, and told me that if they got another complaint against them their insurance was going to drop them. didnt karen own another daycare years and years ago? that had issues?

If you have any concerns, complaints, or compliments you can go to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services... or call and ask for Janice Miller. ANYONE who has a license to watch children in the state of Missouri has an open record....no matter if it is a few children out of your own home, or a larger center. You can request to see the file. If there are substantiated complaints, they will be in there. The unsubstantiated ones, will have been left out. You may even stumble upon a good thing or two. As far as her past, if you have any questions, come down in person or call and just ask...I've seen this happen and answers are given. If Karen was a perfect person than her name would be Jesus. She believes in God and tries to live her life. She does what she does professionally for the betterment of children first, families second, staff and State. I wouldn't want her job.

The teacher is no longer employed there.. she didnt die either. She is alive and well. The incident you are speaking of happened over 4 years ago.
