My Grandmother used to be there. She is in Heaven now, she was 92. Some of the staff there are very nice and helpful, some, not so much. The main complaint I have is they really need to clean better, not just the residents, but their beds and bed railings and such. They get paid $3200 plus per month for a resident. They should be able to afford better cleaning staff. Someone should also check into their nurse/cna/ patient ratios.

There are no good nursing homes!!!! Unfortunately I had loved ones residing in Mark Twain and lost both of them in one year. All nursing homes in Missouri know when their inspections will be and have ample time to shine things up before they get there. I had the privilege of being on site during one of these inspections and was amazed and shocked at how attentive the staff could be while being observed by an inspector! The minute the inspector signed off and left the property it was back to business as usual - 15 to 20 minute wait for a call light to be answered. All resident falls and accidents need to be investigated not covered up!!!!!!

There are good nurses and bad ones. If you want to know how your loved one will be treated, then keep them at home. There will be days and times the treatment won't be good. I do think that some are treated better than others. I've seen it.

Too bad not everyone has a choice about keeping their loved ones at home! Unfortunately, the nature of a loved one's illiness may require skills that the average person doesn't possess. I'm sick and tired of people passing judgement on those that are forced to put loved ones in a nursing care facility! No doubt, there are some that put their loved ones in a nursing home and never visit, but there are others that visit as much as they can and do their best to monitor the care their loved one receive.

As stated in the previous post, there are good and bad nursing homes. If you are that concerned about your loved one, and think they have really have done a discredit to them, then call the division of aging instead of spouting off and not doing anything to help the situation. If the division of aging is called, they have either 24 or 48 hours to investigate each complaint. If enough people voiced their concerns productively, you would see results! Some people have no choice, for a multitude of reasons, but to put a family member in a nursing home. Maybe they are ill or incapable of caring for them, maybe the patient (or resident) has had a stroke and requires therapy, maybe they don't qualify for home care. The list goes on. I worked in a local nursing home for years. Unfortunately, the pickings for good employees are slim to none, they end up having to work with a skeleton crew. The staff is over worked and underpaid. Take a look where we live and they employees to choose from! Yes, some staff have no heart at all. If that's the case, complain to someone who can do something about it!! If you keep a close watch, visit often, complain to the D.O.N. or administrator. You may not be liked, but will see an improvement more than likely. When they see you coming, they will more times than not, make sure your loved ones needs are met as they should be.

There are those that have no choice, but there are others who choose to put their "loved one" in a home. One of the reasons for this is that they can get the state to pay for it. I wonder how many people would keep them at home if they received an adequate check for it. The last I heard if one were keeping a person out of a home, they could receive a small check, food stamps, and medicaid for themselves. This may have been cut as so many are complaining about the taxes they have to pay for the poor.

Daughter, Kim who? I can tell you that my grandmother is there and she has to be there. She's almost died twice in her stay there. Also, she is constantly in pee and poop. What's sad is there is nothing we can do about it because she hasno where else to go.

What is really sad is that so many are forced to be in these places because the family thinks they cannot care for them. People don't take into consideration that they are being judged for the way they treat their elders. What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you.

Well you judge but you don't know the circumstances. And for your information, some people are so severe that there is no way to take care of them. It's iritating to hear people think the families are too lazy to take care of their family but you don't know the whole story. Moral of the story, don't judge people especially if you don't know the circumstances!

I'm sure there are those who cannot care for a loved one, but there are those who can and won't or think they can't. Those are the ones I'm referring to. I should have been more explicit. I'm not judging. It's the truth. And if you want to get right down to it, some are in the home because they were bad parents themwselves. It's called reaping what you've sown. That's the truth too.

The reason a person is in a nursing home is not the point --- the point is they deserve to have their needs met with dignity and respect! Most nursing homes are terriby under staffed and patients suffer from neglect!

Just so you know DAUGHTER...the gay ass that your talking about "matt" got his ass fired a long time ago. thank god. he was a horrable CNA. and he really did depend only on getting a check every 2 weeks. as a matter of fact he owes me about two hundred dollars that i gave him to keep his ass out of jail. so much for being nice huh. but there are some really great CNA's that i know of that work there. this is not the only nursing home that has its problems in poplar bluff. but just remember. the CNA's dont run the place. its the administrators and the D.O.N's that are at fault here.

That's because there are so many people in there. The profit and loss sheets should be open for the public. I hear that they have two books. Does anyone know?

Whether they have one or two books it takes a joint effort to deceive the inspectors - if this is true someone needs to step forward and tell the truth and expose the deceit!

When your loved one is in a nursing home, no matter where it is you will always think they are getting the worst care. Also, unless you have been a CNA at Mark Twain SHUT UP! You people have no idea what they go through and how hard MOST of them work to take care of YOUR loved one.
