It has come to my attention that I am featured and was awarded a "Thumbs Down" in a column entitled "It Was A Bad Week for..." in the SEMO Times. Since I don't typically assault my brain with "yellow journalism" I was unaware of the columns existance.
While it is true that I have engaged the Topix readers and users to discussions that affect our city I do not believe that in my doing so was a mistake. Mr. Faughn and the SEMO Times have colorfully described Topix users as "loosers and malcontents" I do not share those views. Mr. Faughn, what makes someone a looser and a malcontent? Would a person be a looser and malcontent if they stole donated money to purchase a motorcycle? Would someone be a looser and malcontent if they were to simulate harassment by throwing a brick though their own window to decieve the voters?
Comments like the ones in the SEMO Times leads me and others to come to the conclusion that the SEMO Times and Mr. Scott Faughn are somewhat afraid of Topix and those that contribute to it. I wonder why?
I thought long and hard before I decided to use Topix as an avenue for discussions of issues that affect us all. It was not a spur of the moment idea. I do not regret my dicision to do so. I was fully aware of the content of some of the threads before I decided to register my name and use Topix. Just because I will not contribute to gossip and slander on Topix does not mean that I am afraid or I am ending my contributions to Topix. Frankly, I am not interested in who is the "biggest ho" and who is the "best looking black guy in town" These are not discussions that affect our city. I do agree that there are those that use Topix as a weapon to assonate the character of our citizens and cause harm, similar to the SEMO Times, however, that is not my intent. My intention is to share ideas and hopefully shine a brighter light on Poplar Bluff's City Council. I think that it is evident that the citizens do not have much faith in local politicians and I hope to change minds and make Poplar Blufff a better city.

By the way, Scott, how is that motorcycle?

Scott Faughn is NOT running for school board, it is Scott Vaughn. Mr. Vaughn is a fine, upstanding man.
I too shutter to think what condition R-1 Schools would be in if someone of Mr. Faughn's character and morals were to ever run and be elected to the R-1 board.

I may be mistaken, but I think that it is Scott Vaughn that is running for the school board.

It's funny that the people that put topix readers down are the same ones that "report abuse" and try and sue for slander. They MUST be reading topix as well then, right???

Don't forget that they actually don't have newspaper software to even produce this garbage. It's all non-spell checked Windows Office 2000 uglyness. I enjoyed their awesome NCAA Basketball Tournament preview featuring experts that have nothing to do with college basketball.
