Nope, I think if crappy docs can hide their past, nurses can too. I think somebody should have a way of red flagging any state license so at least potential employers would have a clue there is something going on.
I can promise you that if you start union organizing activity today, I don't care who owns the place this week, you will be dismissed or made so miserable you will quit.
You have it good there at PBRMC,so no the need for a union is moot. The unions tend to take our money and run anyway.

"I've seen some GREAT changes since HMA bought this hospital and specifically since the current CEO, Bruce Eady, has been at the helm."

Yeah, you should see all the pretty fountains they've built and landscaping they've done. And they've tiled the Women's Center waiting room and installed LCD screen TVs everywhere!

Seriously, they do need to do one more thing outside to spruce things up: they need a second helipad. Just today, one chopper had to circle while another spooled up and took off. And I've seen that happen at least four time and I don't even work at the place! When you're a rural clinic like PBRMC, you do have to ship a lot of patients out, even if they're otherwise getting good care, just because we don't have the best equipment, specialists, etc. that are required for a lot of ailments.

If you want good care at PBRMC, it's in the Women's Center. If you're stuck on the 2nd or 3rd wing, you'll be lucky to see a nurse once each shift. I can rip off at least five known instances where the ER has contributed to the death of patrons (almost killed me). Same for the ICU (including a doc's wife). That doesn't even include the minor crap that goes on, like not changing out blue pads after a patient messes the bed, even after his wife points out the problem.

"Queen Carda" as she was called in a previous post, does have a few suits against her. Many of the OB/GYNs do. It's part of the specialty, especially down here in PB where your typical maternity patient is on Medicaid and recreational drugs, is 17 years old with her 5th pregancy and second baby, unmarried, one or more STDs and has consumed massive amounts of alcohol and cigarettes during the pregnancy -- and has had maybe one or two prenatal visits to a doc, if that. She's slapped around by one of her shack-ups and falls, then sues the doc if the baby isn't perfect. Doncha hate those OB docs for doing that?

Don't rag on the docs that are practicing down here who grew up here. Most of the population either won't leave PB after high school or insist on coming back to get a job after they get their degree in oceanography and end up working at B&S or McDonald's. Worry instead about the docs who had a practice elsewhere in a big city and are now down here. Why did they leave the big bucks, big hospitals, fancy diagnostic equipment, etc. to come to Podunk to practice? After seeing some of their work, it's probably been to escape some malpractice problems.

Although each may have his or her quirks, we have the best batch of OBs anywhere.

PBRMC has more babies born here than either hospital in Cape or the one in St. Charles (St. Joseph).

So,from what you are saying, the new ad slogan for PBRMC is "Rated #1 for deliveries by U.S.CrackWhore and World Report"? Oooh, maybe they can get foam fingers for the ad-We're #1!Did I forget they are top rural hospital in the "Trial Attorney Tattler"?

Also while hospitals seem to be short of nurses - blame the system, there is a national nurse shortage and folks do not want to grow up and be nurses - so the current nurses demand more pay making it harder for the hospital to pay top dollar and have staff. It all becomes a joke - As far as leagl history of the hopsital, look it up by owner as well - I know the hospital used to be owned by Tenet, but was sold to someone else not long ago.
Joe Hospital are you a company man? because let me tell you i have been a nurse for 9 years none of the nurses are making so much money that it is a hardship on the administration, I and I know most of my nursing friends barely make enough to get by, I see people living on social security and welfare and we dont live much better than them when you take out the exorbitant health insurance we pay (even though we are health care providers)we work long hours with large patient loads not because we demand so much money or making so much money most of us do it because nursing is in our blood, and believe me we are not getting paid near enough and it shows when the administration is cutting back on staffing more mistakes are made and patient satisfaction is way down Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center used to be a very good hospital and could be again, the nurses for the most part that i have spoken to loved it when ama owned it

we,as nurses, try to give the best care we can to our patients but sometimes we simply have to many patients to give the BEST attention to just one and those that think we make so much money should know this Me at least 4 other nurses I know of have to work 2 jobs to make ends meet to support our families beleive me we are not getting rich off of nursing and we are not demanding exorbant salaries.so if they don't know what they are talking about then shut up

AMI was despised when they were the owners, ask old Bill Bradley about having union organizing activity. Everybody complained, but staffing levels were better, since their census was never as high as it is nowadays. There were 4 hospitals then,Lucy Lee,DRMC,Poplar Bluff and the VA,so patients were better distributed, thus staffing was better, and no one facility was overcrowded with patients herded in and out like cattle. Until you have another hospital to help alleviate this problem,it won't really get better. Oh,wait, what is that big brown building across town, the Medical KOA Campground, the old DRMC-maybe the tumbleweed could be removed and it be repurposed?
If the old boys out at the Coppertop ever get their hospital going,HMA or whomever owns it that week, will be forced to either build or remodel the old DRMC.
Until then,if people would use Urgent Care instead of the ER for piddly stuff,it might help.If they would charge a big co-pay for using the ER for minor ailments WHEN Urgent Care is open, you might see alot less sore throats, upset stomachs, diarrhea.

Well that would explain Dr. Carda, I suppose.
I wondered where she came from! I had always heard good things about her so I had seen her for about 4 years. In Jan. 2006, I went to her for my annual exam and was "okay". Thank God, I had another test in April at the Stoddard County Public Health Center so I could get my bc pills there, and they found I had a low-grade SIL. Seen Dr. Carns in Cape and it was so bad, she had to perform a LEEP. Followed up with her every six months and now have been cleared to go once a year again. My Mom died of cervical cancer, and had it not been for the SCPHC and Dr. Carns, I probably would have too, at the fault of Dr. Carda. Haven't had any experiences with the hospital there so can't say anything about them, but that "doctor" almost killed me.

My father went in their numerous times and each time going in it was considered just a pit stop for a helicopter ride out of here. We knew if he ever went in and was not able to be transfered right away they would kill him their. AND GUESS WHAT THEY DID!!! AND yes they killed him.
Years ago when it was Good old Lucy Lee Hospital they IMO seemed to be a good hospital, my grandmother died their when it was Lucy Lee, she had a great staff in the ICU unit and they were great to our family.
When my father passed away the staff was Pathetic. We were treated with disrespect, like we were second rate. We were bothering them by being their or by asking any questions regarding his care. I have never been made feel the way the hospital made us feel that day and few days before.
As far as the Head nurse or the new administrator Bruce Eddy, oh yeah I spoke with both of them, had a meeting with him. Did it get me anywhere NO. He sat their and lied to me to my face. Told me if Iwanted a copy of his medical records I could go over and get a copy of them their would be no problem what so ever. SO I went to go and get them and the girl told me I had no right to them and that he would have to sign for them himself. I asked ehr if she was gonna dig him up with a shovel and use his hand to sign his name. SHe looked at me and still told e I had no right to his medical records. He pased away 5 months ago, and they still will not give us a copy of his medical records. Yes this hospital here sucks, and given half the chance they will kill you.

And Carda caught my cervical cancer 2 weeks after the Dr in cape told me I just needed a dnc to stop the bleeding. Which he performed and did not take care of the problem. GO figure. Dr in Cape almost killed me and Carrie Carda Saved my life.

You can mark that in the books for a first, Carrie Carda has never saved anyone's life but yours. If she is sooooo great, why has she been ban from surgery at the hospital (not currently in the past), state shut her down on the LIPO she was doing, and has numerous lawsuits against her. AND she had to go to the Caribbean to get into medical school. AND ask her how many times she took her boards before she passed them..you are a lucky lady if she caught your cancer. You should be thankful as I am sure you are, but don't let her kindness fool you.

If you think you have a case,a lawyer can get them, for a fee,for you. You will have to to a larger town to get an attorney,Butler & Stoddard Counties are on the "buddy" system.
No one can see another's medical records without the person's written consent (unless a minor),dead or alive, makes no HIPAA difference-you'd think this Bruce guy would know that! Even hospital employees that are not taking care of a patient have no business looking at those records.

Oh no their is an attorney right here in Poplar Bluff that is taking the case, including the case that was already pending against the hospital and the orthopedic surgeon that severely messed him up. went in with a broken leg and was flew out 10 days later on life support.

Yes Bruce knew that he just wanted me out of his office and thought that we would not take it any further. Guess what he is wrong wrong wrong
