Is Ryan's in PB closing? I heard that the chain that owns them (Buffets Inc.) is going bankrupt.

The place is always full of people when I eat there. Someone should buy out the rights to it if the chain goes bankrupt.

I know I'm one is a million but I have a phobia about buffets and I don't patronize these establishment. I don't like to eat from dishes stirred and mangled by multiple people. Much less the bacteria/germs on the handles of those utensils. Yuck!

Okay, so maybe I'm not unique---what makes them so popular? American's large population of obese overeaters, you think? These establishments have to make money otherwise they couldn't exist.

It's the "all you can eat" mentality. That used to mean something different 5 - 6 years ago. Maybe a second helping. Now it's four to five helpings for the price. Kids eat free? Okayyyyy, have you seen the size of some of these kids? They can't make a profit without raising their price, and if they raise their price people are gonna have a fit. I haven't eaten there in years. It looks like hogs to the trough. I think its weird how people will go to a buffet and wash their hands before filling their plate. They should be washing them after filling their plate. Wonder how many people have used their hand to cover their mouth while they coughed then went to the buffet? Yuck

Totally disgusting isn't it. Have a what would yo do story to share. One Sunday morning at church, as most ministers do we were asked to stand & greet persons around us. Just as the man if front of me stood, he coughed into his hand. Then extended it to me to shake. I didn't know what to do. Hesitated, but shook hands and grabbed the sanitizer!
I heard that during cold & flu season last year, some churches deleted this practice. I wish this age old social practice would go away. Guess, I have a little phobia---or Howard Hughes syndrome!

We don't eat there anyway. One of us gets sick everytime!

And yeah some kids eat alot but then others barely eat anything. We pay for the 6 year old to eat a spoon full of ham from the salad bar and a piece of chicken maybe some mashed potatoes...and this on a good day. It's a waste of money for us...plus it's disgusting.

When I see all those terribly obese people eating mountains of food it reminds me of a hog trough. Yuk.

As I understand it, Buffets Inc. was going through a bankruptcy as of 2005. This DID include closing some of the chain's restaurants, but ours was not included at the time, nor were there any plans to do so.

However, the Ryan's in Sikeston closed down just recently. And local management is expected to attend a corporate meeting in the next few weeks to find out the fate of the Poplar Bluff branch.

My expectation: the place has been running in or near the red for years now. Even if it survives this round of cuts, don't expect it to survive more than another couple years.

I used to love Ryans years ago. I never really know what I want to eat so buffets are great for me. The local Ryans has gone downhill and bad. They have jacked the prices up and the food quality has gone down. I wish they would open another buffet in town so that we could have a choice.
