Who runs the animal shelter and who do they report to? It seems there is never anyone on call there, or else they are gone. Shouldn't there be more concern here? There should be someone to help after hours.

And I'm sure you'd be more than happy to pay extra taxes to support that? Go eat another dead animal and keep pretending you care.

There should be someone there or somewhere that will deal with emergencies after hours. It shouldn't take hours to get help to wounded or car struck animals. What ABOUT the taxes paid by the concerned citizens? I would pay more to see that our city is run better. After all, the quality of living is only as good as the environment where one lives.

As I eluded to before, your complaints are ridiculous. I'm always fascinated by bleeding hearts crying their eyes out and trying to throw money at a dog pound to kill kittens, but they have no problem closing those eyes to the treatment of their food sources. Hypocrisy at it's finest.

I am more concerned about there not being anyone around after hours, and the police either doesn't have the time or desire to deal with this. At least in a timely manner. That's been our experience. Personally, I think there should be an office to deal with this even if it does cost more.

There will be a new animal shelter. The poperty was just bought, and the new shelter should be ready in abut 2 years. This is a multi county project, and will be run better. In the meantime, PB city residents will have to deal with the city shelter, or call your vet and pay yourself.I was told the city shelter does not provide vet care. I live in the county and cannot use city shelter. If the dog/cat is purebred, there are some rescue groups, but you must contact them to see if they have room to help and get the animal there. Thank you for caring.

Purebred? Most animals that are hit are not. Plus, the cost of calling a vet to come and get the animal would be considerable. That's why there needs to be an officer just for this to make this a better place to live.

If you dont live in the city of poplar bluff you cant "use" (meaning dump your unwanted dogs) the animal shelter. Some people dont understand it is Animal Control NOT an animal rescue. They are there to control the animals within the city limits. I have been there a few times and they are always there. If there is such a concern maybe you should help the people who are building the new shelter.

The problem is with the owners, it seems like people in this area and the surrounding towns won't get their animals fixed.

They used to rescue animals. I hear now that they don't check the traps that were set up years ago and countless numbers of animals die in them. I don't know, just heard that. I do know that God expects people to take care of his creatures and a city that won't is poor indeed. We've called to report big dogs roaming the neighborhood and no one answer the phone--just a message. Of course, by the next day, the dog has done it's meanness or else is gone. This shouldn't be.

I have called the police dept before and they got the animal control for me, but it was a dangerous dog after hours. I don't think they go in the middle of the night for strays. Also, I don't know about now but they used to have the hours someone would be there posted on the end of the building.

God definitely intended for humans to care for animals. That's why humans invented factory farming. Total BS...

No one was referring to animal farming. Humans also invented pole and lap dancing, but it's not the topic of this forum either.

Actually the person I responded too said "God" intended for humans to care for animals. I'm always amused by how people can be "animal lovers" or claim to support animal rights when what they really mean is cats and dogs.
