Sunday's DAR asks "what does EMA Director Rick Sliger do"? As a Butler County taxpayer I also would like to know what he does all day, he has no office, no phone line except a cell phone and no one to supervise. To compensate him for all his tireless labor the taxpayers give him a salary of over $40,000 a year with benefits. I think it's time for Rick to start a daily log sheet that will document what he does all day every day. That way Rick can prove he is a valuable employee to the county. What does everybody think, do we need some accountability in the Butler County Emergency Management or are we just going to keep throwing money down a hole.?

I think all city and county departments need accountability. I was praying about this very thing this morning. I pray for our law enforement officers and would like to know what who does what especially when it makes the news. For instance, who are the policemen who arrested the guy on bath salts? Are we not entitled to know and why? And why isn't Mr. Schreiber on the city council so we can see him? Are the city "heads" not required to attend these meetings as well? I admit I don't watch the meeting much because they are boring, but maybe we should. Maybe there is more there than I know. Perhaps Mr. Schreiber is there and if so, I apologize. I would like to see this Rick Sliger too as I hear about him so much.

Maybe they need to have debates like they do on tv. That would be entertaining and informative.

I agree that all people holding city and county offices should have public job performance reviews at the city council meetings. I think city council and the school board and public school teachers should have public reviews as well.

I have not seen today's DAR yet but if this is true it's about freaking time someone called him out! I know past EMA directors made less than HALF that much a year and did a hell of a lot more in a day than he does in a month. I seem to remember one EMA director made 17000 a year and had a crew of 70 plus volunteers to supervise and get trained for disasters. They also helped with the Black River Festival security as well as Butler County Fair and the rodeo security as well. Please Rick Sliger tell us exactly what you do to earn more that double what past EMA directors have earned....

Dont understand why u wouldnt take pride in a job like ema director.you get to provide for youre community when they need you the most.that alone should make you want to have every possable resource and when the world sees this they say they have am excelent program lets learn from them.whats bad is that the resources are there for poplar bluffs ema.so why would u disrespect the people of poplar bluff and not give the resources and training that we deserve.rick sliger needs to step down and a new director appointed.there is no reason why this matter has taken so long to fix.now that we are addressing this i hope our nee mayor mr.degaris will do what he can along with mark dobbs and city county fire and make a change with this.there are several voulnteers that wld take that position and make a huge difference.

Another great article in the DAR today detailing how the EMA Director isn't doing his job. Keep up the good work!

The EMA Director is not elected. He is appointed by the Butler County Commission so if you are concerned about the allegations in the paper then you need to talk to them.

its kinda funny cause on the one side the EMA Director does not do anything as best we can tell yet the only reason the DAR is calling it out is the whole Strenfel/Dobbs thing. If Rick was in with Dobbs and not Ed the DAR would be printing about how great our EMA Director is.

NO Sliger couldnt run for sheriff because he is a employee of the county that gets part of his pay from a grant, there fore he would violate the Hatch act if he ran for any political office, he used strenfel as a pawn trying to get himself in the sheriffs office
Mark would never lower himself to their standards during the campaign and it was proven in the election. cry me a river you are grasping at straws so why dont you go back and rethink what you posted

Sorry, P B S, I mispoke you on another thread. I thought you said Mark Dobbs was smart, but instead you said he would never lower himself to their standards. Now, why did I get that in my head? hmmm... Well, I hope he's smart, because someone is going to have to be to run this county. It appears to me and a lot of others that we have some real dummies here. Dum d Dum Dum...

Why don't we just put it on the ballot whether to have a full time EMA director. If he doesn't do anything, let the volunteers run it. I'm sure there would be a number of qualified people who could volunteer their time to oversee it. Eh?

Or you could let the local Guardsmen and Corpmen have a shot at it. There is enough qualified people who would help BC out, especially since there seems to be little money in the coffers after all the lawsuits, I hear.

...better yet, let the local Sheriff's office run it.
