It's very possible that residents on Hempstone Avenue are being exposed to carcinogenic chemicals from a nearby dump. Hempstone Avenue dead-ends at LM Stevens Park. Many parks across the country have been developed on top of closed dumps that contain carcinogenic chemicals. A sewage disposal pond is located behind the park. Sewage disposal ponds are often adjacent to closed dumps. Historical research needs to be done now to determine if there is a dump beneath LM Stevens Park.

Not moving to the Poolesville area now. Relocating from MA very soon - job in Frederick. Researched best areas for children and school districts and Poolesville was rated the highest. Googled this morning for more information in the area and found this article. Thank God I found this information, because with this economy, I'm sure there are other choices within the commuting distance we need to do. Any parents have input on best areas - health wise and education wise for two boys 4 and 3 and an baby girl? Need great daycare and great schools for the children to 'grow into'.

Before you move, try to find out if there are any closed dumps (landfills) in the area because many schools across the country have been built on old dumpsites that contain toxic waste.

Yeah, first day on the range in Basic, the Drill Sergeant put the butt-stock on his forehead, and shot it, to show people not to be afraid of being on THAT side of the weapon lol... The M4 (what I use now) has a shorter/stronger buffer and even with that the recoil is no problem. Although, it is heavier with all the "gadgetry" (appx 2-5 lbs person dependent) and that helps control the business end quite a bit...

MA resident - You're very wise to investigate before you relocate. Contact us (toxicsites@hotmail.com) and we'll provide you with information on the areas where you're thinking about moving. Our organization, People Investigating Toxic Sites, maintains files on open and closed dumps and contaminated groundwater in communities across the country. We also have many files on cancer clusters and other serious illnesses in neighborhoods built on or adjacent to old dumpsites.
One of the cancer clusters we are currently investigating is Poolesville. If anyone has information on the previous land-use of LM Stevens Park, please contact us.
