Laying off police officers before his own highly paid staff shows a mayor who doesn't give a good hot chocolate about the city he serves.

He was not recalled the Citzens of Pontiac, but they will not vote him back in !!! Good job??? where in the hell do you see good, all these weeds growing with out knee deep, now losing both police and fire dept, no community centers for the youth, and the city is about to be taken over by the state...by the large defict his staff created all while Clarence Phillips in office... Clarence just wants a fat check and he dosen't care about Pontiac.

Are you kidding look at the choice's for Mayor that the city of Pontiac has had in at least the last 30 odd years. Pick your poison! Everything that has been on the ballot couldn't balance a checkbook and has no problem spending city money to advance their own account and family and friends who otherwise couldn't get a job. Counsel is not much better, there is an old saying I have heard all my life sh*t or get off the pot. The whole bunch needs to go!

The Governor needs to step in with someone qualified to balance the books. Sheriff's department needs to take over policing the city. The people of Pontiac voted to pay more for more cops but after we approved it with our votes they laid off 20 more, the schools may be sh*tty but we are not stupid. If I ran my home like they do our city, I'd be out of a place to live. So these that run this city into the hole need to be held responsible. Voting them out just doesn't seem like enough. We need a Steve Wilson to look into our city goverment like he did in Detroit. Can you imagine what Steve would did up.

Is Clarence Phillip the problem or the complacent black people the problem. It is the same old stuff in every community. The names change, but the problems stay the same. Steve Wilson, he is well informed. Don't think for one minute he does not know what is going on in Pontiac, Michigan. The is only one reason why Pontiac is not news worthy--the revenue is being proportionately distributed.
Black people should start acting smarter by becoming responsible citizens.

As a black resident of Pontiac I take exception with the previous comment from Troy, MI. Many of us here in Pontiac are responsible citizens and care about our city very much. No doubt we make mistakes, but nobody's perfect, including Mayor Phillips. But that does not excuse him of running this city as if he were king of the world. I know for a fact that the fire dept. had extra money it was willing to share with the police dept. but the mayor said that, while he would except the money, he would do with it what he wanted. Which apparently didn't include sharing it with the police to keep them fully staffed. And what about the tax payer funded contracts he gifted his friends? You don't really know what a person is going to do until they get into office. We had to choose between Payne and Phillips. Unfortunately,we didn't want either one, but we tried to do the best we could with what we had. At this point, if Pontiac went into receivership that would be just fine with me.

I live in Pontiac as well and have for some 30 years. I have watched my area go up and down depending on the economy which is no excuse for what I am seeing these days. We visit other surrounding communities and the contrast is huge. The number of lazy, nasty people is sickening. People who will walk right past garbage on their own property like they didn't even see it. Young people roll up in front of our house dump their garbage after smoking some dope. Did I mention how they will use the trees in the park for a toilet. Why do we get the trash? You can be poor and still you don't have to be nasty! But hey that's the attitude, you owe me, not my problem, so what!

Here is a suggestion.........split up Pontiac to the different communities adjacent to us. Add our taxes to their bottom line and let's lose the no account city officials that do nothing for this city. It may put their family and friends out of a job but I'm game.

It is the same ole song and dance. Just like Detroit with the new school superintendent, Connie I like my new piggy bank. Not solving problems in the DPS just want's to throw more money at the same ole crap. If she wanted to know how to better run DPS she didn't have to use taxpayer money to travel out to the country to do it. There are local school districts in driving distance Connie, or aren't you smart enough to check. You can't piss on a forest fire and call it good. Get rid of her now Detroit don't wait till she takes you further down the road to ruin.

Can someone please run for Mayor of Pontiac that is not a crook looking to pad their own pockets at the taxpayers expense. A real public servant...please! And counsel if you want to really help Pontiac the city you claim to care so much about. Put it on the books, no family, no friends hired....you apply for a job opening like everybody else. Maybe just maybe we will get qualified people that really do work for a paycheck.
