I'm agree with you, Worried. These people are obviously not correctional officers...just idiotic people who have nothing better to do. I am desperately trying to get hired on with IDOC, and now they have a state-wide hiring freeze until they can offer everyone at Pontiac a job (which they should do). Now I have to wait another six months...thanks Rod, you moron!
close it

I worked as a guard for many years, and let me tell you, You do not want that job. Melody this closing has been long over due for Pontiac. If somebody wants a job that is the last place to go. Just close it,and dose it. And do you think It was a good idea to put your name up here if you really wanted the job at the idoc????? The dumbing of the U S A goes on..........SAD

You should be worried. Staff at Lawrence and other prisons throughout the state are not experienced in handling the type of inmates Pontiac CC houses. Pontiac CC plays a vital role in the IDOC. Many the inmates housed at Pontiac are from Cook County. Other than Stateville CC, Pontiac is the closest state prison to Chicago and is a straight shot down I-55. Now the offenders will be shipped farther south or to Thomson which is farther than the drive to Pontiac and the nearest interstate is 38 miles away. Inmate families will be traveling further and longer to visit loved ones. Of course, the cost will be more and may even be prohibitive. But, let's close Pontiac to save $4 million. Let's put money into Thomson and Lawrence prisons to upgrade/improve them to house Pontiac's clientel to save $4 million. The taxpayers of the State of Illinois should be pleased. I'm sure the taxpayers in the State of Iowa will be pleased as Thomson sits almost on their border.

I find it very upset,Pontiac is going to be shut down. 1 we all need our a job and have families to support. The security of the officer its a big change on all the families including the inmates we are all human and make mistake, we all have different types of feelings so is understandable on all sides. Except the governors how can he talk about saving money by closing Pontiac. But yet he is thinking of expanding our highway to create more jobs. Please Governor first deal with what is more important Im sure the highway we have is not going anywere so use that money to keep PONTIAC OPEN and keep our officers employed. People that make negative comments about Pontiac and not caring. Just Pray to GOD that you always have a joband that one day you won't find your self in the same situation or worst no matter what kind of education you have. GOD does not descriminate and he may put you on the same spot as those officer from Pontiac. My respect to the officer that are going thru these hard time your in my prayers.

Stop your whinning if you don't like your job, go to wal-mart and get a new one. Bet they don't give you a free lunch or dinner there. Lazy babysitters thats all they are. IDOC is so top heavey with brass and do-nothings we can cut their buget 30% more before any real cuts are felt.
