why do they need a check point just sit across from any club, bar at closing time and they can get the drunks before they even get on the road!

Almost all the common sense ways to catch a drunk driver are illegal. Like sitting outside of bars or convienience stores for law enforcement. If they do that, and catch a drunk, it will surely get dropped and the officer will be disciplined. The law cannot violate even a criminals "rights" and if they do-severe consequences. The DUI check points are closely monitored by civil rights groups... to make sure no ones rights are stepped on. Just watch what happens at the next one you see-the drunks see the check point and throw out beer cans and then turn around to avoid it, or just run through like a maniac, ignoring the officers and acting like they did not see them. They cannot chase them down due to endangering the public and violating a citizens right to "just turn around". God forbid if they stop someone for turning around to avoid the check point-it might be someone doing that just to make a case against an agency or the officer personally. If the public wants to get drunks off the road (for real, not just lip service) officers would be able to do whatever it takes(i.e. catching them when they are in the parking lot of a bar, before getting behind the wheel. I wish every one a safe Labor Day weekend, please drive safely and soberly.

The bars and clubs would go out of business. People sitting in bars getting drunk generate a lot of tax revenue.

It's always about money. This is just a delirious put on to make you feel safe and that the police actualy care about safety on the roadways.

Check points are an inconvience, but sometimes the very intoxicated person they take off the road may be the person who would of ran into one of your loved ones and killed them .

I say, bust em!
If you are past the limit, you should not drive, so call a friend to pick you up,
or pay for a cab.
It saves life.

Its just plain ignorance for people to drink and drive. To many people die from the ignorance of drunks. Be smart about it, and DONT drive.... Check points are a good idea.
Honestly, its easy not to drive... and better for you :)

The check points are rediculous. have any of you been through it? The sign says all vehicles be prepared to stop however they are picking and choosing who goes in the point to have everything looked at. My husband is latino and only had 2 drinks and they asked if they could look in the car, they put a flash light in his face and made him walk a line . It felt like harrassment. We were an innocent couple who went out for dinner and drinks. Everything went good and he passed but it was still a rediculous process. This check point is rediculous what if someone has a medical condition and cant walk straight or has a speech problem what are they going to do write everyone DUI's . I think a bar should cut someone off after so many drinks. I think police are fidning more ways to collect money. lets write tickets so we can make money....
