Then why Ethel, did you move next to a garbage pile in the first place? There are plenty of places to live that are not close to one.
Reminds me of the complaint people make about airplane noise when they choose to purchase a home near an airport....DUHHHH!

I totally agree with you about this WOW.
She should have moved some place else or stayed in Queens, N.Y.
I can't stand people who move down here from THE Ole' STATE OF N.Y. and then start complaning about EVERYTHING THEY DON'T LIKE HERE. It's gone on for quite some time. Please get a life OR move some place else. People like this are so USELESS AND STUPID, SERIOUSLY, DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
This Landfill has been there for years, LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE AND STOP YOUR BITCHING ABOUT IT. They bury it and burn it, you just don't like looking at it and who cares? WE SURE DON'T. Leave well enough alone. Waste Management is doing a great job and they don't need dumb nuts complaining. Afterall, Coconut Creek was build around it, it was there 1ST AND FOREMOST, so there!!!!!

For five years I worked about a mile and a half south of the landfill. In 2002 it did smell strongly of rotten eggs and the smell permeated the area. At some point in the next year the smell disappeared entirely and never returned. I worked inside/outside and I would have noticed had it come back prior to my leaving in 2007.

I think that W/M is doing a great job and driving north each morning with the landfill in full view was a highlight of my morning. It was an interesting terrain feature, brilliant green, and the nearest thing to a mountain Florida ever had. Beautiful. I did miss the white Xmas tree lights they put up each holiday season until about 2005. Now I live 600 miles to the north and my trash collection service is.....you guessed it....Waste Management. They're good people.

one thing is for sure, if they close the landfill our trash collection will get a lot more expensive.

lets bring it up to about 1000 ft then make a ski resort and amusement area.

Oh for God's sake knock it off with the "shouldnt have moved here crap"

Just like any other city or county run entity..its run amok literally...did anyone read the "suppose to close in 1996" it would have been a park by now (Davie Landfill" if the people had done what they were suppose to do. Now the county needs to fund a research effort???C'mon pull out the old paperwork they researched and paid for when it opened..taking shots at the neighborhood and the people who live in the surrounding area is futile and pointless...This county generates alot of garbage (most of which can be found on these forums) so now when this particular landfill is busting at the seams....we have to fund a study? Its obvious alot of people have been asleep at the switch...just who is responsible for this..."waste management. the city, the county"...let "waste management" study it...they will make the money anyway...

There is a "Mt Trashmore" in Virginia Beach. It was made of trash and is a beautiful recreation area. There are picnic areas, holiday events, etc. Very innovative. This was done many years ago and there were plans to make a Mt Trashmore II. Possibility??

St Lucie county is in the process of buying and using a trash disposal system that melts ALL types of garbage, coverts the material into a fuel that runs the plant, can run 'green' autos and sells the power that is generated back to the grid.
They will be able to burn away the current landfill there in about 15 years.

It's not an incinerator, it doesn't produce the pollution commonly associated with incinerators.
Broward should look into this type of trash disposal process. In the long run it wont cost you and I anything to dispose of trash because it will be providing us all with an alternative source of power and fuel for our homes and cars.

Startech Environmental Corporation sells Plasma Converter System, a recycling system for the recovery, recycling, reduction, and remedial of hazardous and nonhazardous waste materials and industrial by-products while converting them into useful commercial products, such as Plasma Converted Gas, energy products, hydrogen, metals, and silicates for use and sale.

Deerfield does smell if you live west of 95, you don't smell it everyday but the air does carry and it's disgusting.

I think that's one of the reasons condos & homes there are selling so cheap, you would be an idiot to buy one because it will never sell again.

Let's guess what's really going on here: someone rich and powerful bought up a bunch of acreage cheap in the economic meltdown and now wants to sell it to the county for "Mount Trashmore II", probably to be paid for with federal "bailout" money for local governments. Why else is Mount Trashmore suddenly a "problem" after all these years?

Why don't we send the trash to Haiti? They'd welcome it there for sure, if anything to supplement their mud pie diet.
