to the former fire chief im sure you've gotten in trouble before because you're a sinic who obviously has a mouth bigger than his body. if i was u i would take this opportunity to look at myself as a person and change, because it's obvious to anyone looking at your comment that not only do u have a big mouth and a big problem with self control. your type of ignorant stance on life is the same one that is handing this country over to h m o's and tottaly rich people. this guy was a pooooooor person with nooooo insurance and as of right now till you change your ways your obviously an ass. i'm sure your wife has told u that many times. don't u think it's time for u to learn something about life? bro trust me your wife is a hell of alot smarter than u.. u know that u just act like your smart.. hint--anyone who really is smart can tell. you are just a bottom feeder. good day to u sir.

The whole thing is very unfortunate, truly truly sad. His dad the late Neil Serpa passed in July of 1998 and he is with him now, peacefully in heaven. He was my brother and it saddens me to now know that he has passed. It saddens me, because I never really got to know him. We are from an estranged family, and unfortunately none of us were ever really afforded the opportunity to really bond and get to know each other on the level that I would have liked. In a perfect world it would have worked out differently, it didn't take Neils passing to teach me about how important family is. Iv'e already known for a while. That is why i have always been so good to my mother. A great lesson can be learned from this, when u ostracize family you never no what can happen to them, now we all have to live with this. Sincerely, Danny

how can they be so sure that the smoke alarm was dismantled and not burned and then broken apart. did they see tools right next to it? who made that determination so quickly. no investigation sounds strange. they're already saying it was from a pot on the stove, very interesting. i think that somebody might want to take a look into this guys past, real quick before they just let it go. and who is Sandra King a spokesperson for?
Who are you talking about- Sandra King? Anyway, if it happenned last year to the guy's apartment behind him, I'm suspecting an electrical problem. Neil never cooked. I don't think his stove was even working, so I am suspicious of that pot on the stove theory myself. I'm thinking that there is an inside wiring problem. The city's building inspection report was called out to investigate a possible unsafe electrical system, but I haven't got their report yet. It does sound too coincidental. I did not know that someone died there last year. Where can that information be found?

Danny, I know the situation was wrong with you and your brother Neil, as he was ostracized due to favoritism to you and your brother. I am so glad you realize this and how it hurt Neil, as he spoke about it often. I look forward to seeing you at the funeral and being a part of your family as I am still a part of the Serpa family. Neil's death is killing me and the stuff I'm hearing about here needs further looking into. I don't know if I have the strength...at least not right now..

I live a few buildings over & witnessed all of the emergency vehicles coming into the complex from where I live, off the main road into the Gardens. I was outside for a while, when things seemed to have calmed down, I asked a police officer what had happened. He responded "an apartment fire". I asked if there was anyone inside & he said no, he didn't think so... he said "they [firemen] would be moving a lot faster if there were people inside". I didn't find out until Tuesday that Mr. Serpa had passed. I too agree that emergency personnel should have moved faster. As with the fire from last year, I also witnessed, in the building behind Mr. Serpa, where an elderly man died. Too much time had past by the time they brought the man outside, in that case. Also, these condos are not very big, AT ALL. I believe the building Mr. Serpa lives in is all 1 bedroom/ 1 bath (less than 1000 sq ft.). This is truly a shame. My thoughts & prayers are with his son & his family.

EVERY Building should be treated like someone is inside until they actually know for sure.

I kick Big Ds ass. Another internet tough guy idiot.
This sounds like the media using an educated guess to scare people about the hazards of dismantling fire detectors. while dismatling a fire detector is obviously bad. I dont think a proper investigation as to the electrical problems in the building have been released. Being close to the parties involved I see know how the media reports one-sided views.

THis is not the fucking Jerry SPringer Show... it is REAL LIFE! I hope you don't lose anyone you love and someone calls it a sideshow. Get the hell off this site if you can't turn of the disgustingly cold-hearted sarcasm. You make yourself sound like an IDIOT. A lot of people could still be at risk for losing their lives in that whole complex because of the wiring.

I am sorry Mrs. Serpa, I did not mean to upset you. However, since you were not there, I felt I should share. But keep in mind, I only got the opinion of one officer, who looked to be somewhat removed from the situation.
If I could give you some comfort... I too have lost a cherished loved one in a tragic way. Ironically, it was 18 years ago on July 30th. I think that maybe why this peaked my interest so much. The best way to see this is that it was his time. Be it in a fire or some other way, God predetermined when he was to go. Time will heal this. That's the best I can say. Like a scar, it will NEVER go away, but it WILL get better. Everyone grieves differently, so feel the way you do, however long you want. There is no right or wrong way to deal with death. But with time it will get easier. I promise.

THank you.my son and I and his family are all grieving terribly. Sorry for your loss, and I hope time will heal.I don't understand why GOd would take such a wonderful father away from my little boy. I can't cope with that. I do respect and love GOd, but this is so senseless...and I do hope the cop who said there was no one inside didn't know what he was talking about because I want to knowthat they did everything they could. GOd Bless Neil, his funeral was Monday. GOd have mercy on his soul...

Im Neils oldest son...all you people on here, except for my uncle glen and daniel and my brother jonathon, are f$*&ing losers. First off my pop didnt kill himself..to the guy who said that, youre a f%^&ing piece of sh*t, i hope you get fu%king shot in the head...second off, my dad wasnt a lonely man. i used to hang out with him all the f&%king time..we used to go out to eat, see movies, go to concerts. he was always at my house, bringing toys for his 3 year old grandson and playing with him. he was a happy man and he loved my brother and me a lot. he was there for both of us, he was there for me when i took my first steps to my first day of elementary school to my first day of college. If it wasnt for him, i wouldnt even be in college. what happened was a f*%%ing horrible thing...i miss him..i pray to god to give me one more day with him..my grandma is destroyed by this, even my mother(not carol serpa), whos been divorced from him bout 19 years was devastated. all i can say, hes in heaven, one day ill be with him again..I LOVE YOU POP

Listen to me , all you speculators, because I am the mother of his 11 year old son, and I was married to him, although we are now divorced. What happenned last night was a TRAGEDY. He would never committ suicide because he was committed to his son. He was supposed to come over TODAY to take him to go snorkeling in the Keys. He was looking forward to that, and we just spoke about it last night. He was a wonderful father to his son, and they spent much time together. My son is devastated by his death and I just noticed he posted that message above, that's why I came on here to set the record straight. His only crime was he was a messy guy (how many of you guy aren't?) He probably pulled the darned smoke detector down because it was chirping and neglected to put one up immediately. Hell, I've done that and left the thing hanging there for months before, and I'm a pretty clean person. I'll never do that again, now, but who hasn't?? And as for whoever is talking about his stalking charges has it all wrong. A lesbian in his complex was actually stalking HIM and reporting it the other way around. He didn't need to stalk her and complained of all the times she kept on calling him. I saw the phone records. He was a good looking guy and had no problem getting girls. The only reason he lived alone is was he was committed to spending all the time he could with our son. He said that when Jonathan got older he would look for another woman. The guy was a decent guy, a WONDERFUL father and I am in serious grieving over my ex. How many can say that about their ex ? I respect him for being there for my son and I'll never forget that. That is his legacy, not that he was a sloppy man and forgot to fix his smoke alarm and had a tragic accident. Because that was what it was. Also, he had no insurance. No term life, no homeowners, and I am now stuck with a burnt out apartment and the mortgage that I originally signed on, to deal with. Anyone know of any cheap probate lawyers, because I'm laying out a lot of money to give my son's father the best burial he deserves, for being the best father a son could hope to have. Please honor his memory. THis was a terrible tragedy...I don't know what else to say as I'm in deep mourning over this , as is all his family.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family for your loss. I am sure at this time your entire family feels great pain and sadness. I wish you all the best. Hug your son for me. Losing a loved one in a fire is a terrible tragedy. I lost my father in an accidental fire at the age of 15 so I understand. It gets better in time but you never forget. From what I read of the article the firemen were cautious, not knowing what was the cause and took the proper precautions.

Your right, it was his time no matter how tragic. My heart goes out to the family. We just lost a loved one in Florida and it is hard.

Derogatory comments aren't needed at a time like this nor speculations. In most cases a fire investigator and insurance investigator looks into things and gets to the root of the cause.

For the family, don't beat yourself up over what was not there in a relationship. Remeember the good times and the laughs and it does help the tears. I wish all of the family the best and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Neil is with God and there is no safer place. Carol, tell your son that he was needed in heaven, that will help some I hope. In the meantime, everyone needs to cherish the lives around them and let their families know they are there no matter what. Neils past was his own, and no one has the right to judge or degrade him.
