They are ordinary people doing an extraordinary job, I know if I call for help they come. Too bad the cities could not pay them even more......

Hey, I've got a great idea. Why don't you pay your own tuition and become a State certified EMT,(1 Year); then pay pay your own tuition to become a State certified paramedic (2 years), then pay your own tuition to go to the fire academy. When you complete all of this successfully, then go through the hiring process, come back and talk to me. You see Mr. Moron, all firefighters must now be State certified EMT's and paramedics.

It has nothing to do with paying your own tuition. Tens of thousands of us have paid our way through college. But we don't threaten our clients via the unions to earn more.

When a fireman puts in his time and 'retires', they still continue to stay on and collect retirement benefits AND their normal annual salary. That's double dipping at the taxpayers expense. No private employer allows that.

Plus, almost every firemen we've come in contact with is an arogant SOB with a 'holier than though' attitude.

People are taxed enough and have had it. If the firemen don't like it, they can get another job. Someone else will gladly fill their position.

Quite overpaid, perhaps to the point of corruption. Don't pay into social security, bogus 'disability' status that makes retirement pay tax free...Look close then DO SOMETHING.

I think most but not all fire fighters are great and the system they are under is corrupt.
You need to separate the two to have an honest debate on the issue. Hey I think nurses are great also so where are their benefits?
The issue of over funded public employee benefits must be addressed. Its not the firefighters fault its the dam unions screwing it all up.

Cut their pay.
Cut their benefits.
They will quit.
Then lets run it for awhile without any firefighters and see how that works out.

All you cry babies out there wouldn't grab a hose and try to put out a house fire if you had a chance to.

And so what if they sit around?
You don't get rid of the fire department because their hasn't been a fire lately.
They get paid because of what they might HAVE to do.

No shit, then they rape the tax payer for the rest of their life.

They need to down size and get rid of the unions. They shouldn't get to retire early and shouldn't have a pension like the 98% of the rest of us. A bunch of self described so called heroes who haven't put in a real days work in years. They make me ill everytime I drive by a station and see them walking around doing nothing most of the time.
