Expansion project under way at Blanche Ely High

At 56 years old, Blanche Ely High School is getting a face-lift. Ground recently was broken on a two-story classroom building on a 4.26-acre site on the school grounds.

Ely High School has historically been a very poor performing school. The emphasis in their education needs to be concentrated on providing the basics. All the other "stuff" won't help if the students can't read, wirte or do basic math.

I applaud the Principal's effort to improve the school's facilities, but let's get rid of the "fluff" stuff and prepare these students for either entry into the workforce or entry into college.

Ely is not the only school under "destruction" this summer. Have you seen the mess @ Marjory Stoneman Douglas? It will NEVER be done by August 18th when the students return.

I agree with Jeff, my cousin attends this school and she would rather have new textbooks then a new building.This school has been a D school for the past 7 years,they need a education not just a faciltity.

The school is a D school because the surrounding community tolerates the non-academic emphasis there. The principal does what he pleases with complete immunity from "downtown" just because it's a black school.

Thugery runs the school there ... any real parent wouldn't send their kids there! I'm a strong black woman, and I wouldn't send princess there!
