THESE CITIES AND COUNTIES NEED TO CUT PAYROLLS AND START MANAGING FUNDS AS IF THEY WERE USING THEIR OWN MONEY.BECAUSE I REFUSE TO PAY ANY MORE FEES OR TAXES FOR ANYTHING.IF THEY CAN NOT MAKE MONEY PROVIDING A SERVICE WE DONT NEED THAT SERVICE.

It's a shame, because Calvin Giordano will staff the department at bare bones levels like it does in Weston and West Park. Good Luck Pembroke Pines, you'll need it.

Contrarily, the union and its membership are responsible...

Anytime the people in any building and zoning dept of ANy city get the axe its a good thing. They are rude, heartless burocrats that deliberatly try to make simple projects into a nightmare.
They are loathed and hated by homeowners, taxpayers and contractors and WILL not be missed. Adious you morons!!!

To start with to SAVE MONEY dont let employees take city vehicles home, the gas you would save could pay for these employees, and i also would include police vehicles, when they are home they dont respond to calls when thet are out with their families, and dont use the crime issue as most criminals dont care if a police officer lives next door, they will rob a house when they are at work. plus the wear and tear on the police vehicles,, could keep a vehicle a year longer. and by the way do you see the off duty officers speeding past you and they dont stop and help stranded motorists!!!!

Sorry I have to follow these ignoramuses.

1. City employees usually make 20%-30% less than the similar jobs in private sector

2. City IS NOT ALLOWED TO MAKE A PROFIT. Calvin and Giordano will make a profit. Guess whose pocket it comes out of, yes, you the tax payers.

3. Get this, you folks, every city job outsourced to a private company WILl COST MORE to the tax payer as the service they provide will be expected to generate them PROFIT, something city employees, already underpaid, do not care about. A while after this B&Z takeover, you will either be begging the city to take the B&Z back or screaming foul for the B&Z inspectors will get ruder and fines - steeper.

I feel bad for some of the employees in this DEpartment. I know of one who is really great and helpful at her job. I was looking up Building Officials for various cities and saw that Southwest Ranches and another municipality outsources these Departments. Seems like a foolish move to me.....as you have to pay the contractor a fee for the service, including wages and insurance, overhead and other hidden costs. This is versus just cutting hours and buying out employees who are near retirement, cutting Directors and upper management salaries to what they are REALLY worth and moving employees to vacant positions within the city. I mean hello.

Arent these officials are supposed to be doing what's in the best interest of the people or am I still living in a dream world?

We'll take our chances!
By the way, the other thing City Employees don't care much about is doing any work.

And you would be wrong as City employees in fact do a lot of work and offer plenty of services that have been taken for granted by the general public.

Thanks. You said exactly what I would have written. Dozens of cops from all over, live and park their police cars in front of their houses, in my development in Miramar. And we still have breakins and stealing from homes, and cars. When Pembroke takes the free cars and gas from the cops, and makes cuts on the firemens benfits, you'll know they are really serious about budget cutting.

Your comment is misdirected. Not a single cop had been fired. All people getting laid off are B&Z employees. perhaps, cops should get fired, perhaps we could save by denying them private use of city vehicle.

But this is not the issue at stake here.

P.S. Cops actually make MUCH MORE than the B&Z employees, and are usually just as rude and much more mighty.
