Inspiration for the Flanders Fields Memorial Poppy

.
In Flanders Fields

By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Hi Zazz and everyone. Perking along here, thank God Almighty, making some improvements in my throat pain! But been missing you all too..

Zazz, it's always good to look in here and see that you've been trying to keep this thread up and running with your interesting posts. Kudos to you, sweet lady and to those others who also try.

Some days I get so disgusted just reading the news I feel like why bother, so many abused, neglected and murdered babies and children; cop murders and others; horrible things going on in this world and so many evil people that we can't do one thing about.

It's sickening; then you've got these big ugly-ass women with their big bare nasty butt with only a scrap of thread running between their butt-crack, and their flopping cow-like boobs thrown all up in your face. Back in my day it was thin waistlines, slim hips, nice tight thighs and breasts adequately proportioned. AND properly dressed. None of this slutty, sling it all in your face. The most we ever did was wear mini-skirts and go braless on occasion but you sure couldn't see thru our tops, OR bottoms! On top of that, you've got to hear about every bodies sick, nasty, reprobate deviate sex life.

How life has changed. And not for the good. Could Sodom & Gomorah have been any worse? If I were a person who allows myself to get depressed, I think I'd have to take to my bed permanently in total depression, but not me; I can still see all the good all around me that is still untouched by human hands and I think this is what keeps me going.

Children should be loved wrote:
Anne, everything you've stated above, is so true. Also, I'll never understand how anyone can hurt a child, particularly their own. The little boy who baked to death in an extremely hot car was so disturbing that I cried for almost an hour. I remember the movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", where some alien life form takes over humans, replacing their bodies with an exact likeness. The person looks exactly like they did before, but devoid of all human emotion and compassion. It sometimes makes me wonder if that could really be happening now, although there's no proof that aliens actually exist. Even if they do, they may not have went as far as to replace us with their own kind. I know it all sounds so preposterous and silly. I do have quite an imagination sometimes. Anyway, I agree about the way many women are dressing today. Some women look repulsive and disgusting, but then I'm not a man and some men may like that look. I tend to think that many do not. I'm not a prude and am not fanatical about some women's tastes in fashion. I can ignore it and not bat an eyelash. To each their own I suppose. I think some of these fashions developed from the last 20 years of the melting pot ever growing. In some cultures and races, it's perfectly acceptable and beautiful to flaunt what nature gave you and if they and their significant others appreciate it and like it, then who am I to say, lol. Perhaps they would think I'm too plain in my attire. But I too remember the 60s and remember wearing short skirts and tight sweaters, lol. I remember whenever I got a new sweater for Xmas, I'd wash it and throw in the dryer on the highest setting, just so it would shrink down a size or two!
It does seem that there is much more evil in the world today. Probably because the population is that much larger then before. Crowding and competition for jobs, land, housing and resources have made people much more treacherous and greedy. So many on drugs and gangs make living in our society very dangerous; not to mention the mentally disturbed and crazies who have been doing these mass shootings all over the United States. We live in scary times, that's for sure. Now with our country bringing in a patient with the Ebola virus, we have to wonder whether this could prove later to be a disaster. They say the rest of the population will not be at risk, but that doesn't seem to quite convince me.
Hope you'll feel better soon.
Thank you, ShouldBeLoved, for your kindly response. Much appreciated. I never know when I make a post if I'm going to end up being scorned or outright slammed. Just, sometimes I feel I have to say something about our state of affairs in this mess we live in whether anyone agrees or not; not meant to cause adversity. Thank you too for your well wishes. Will try to catch up with you, Vic and others sometime tomorrow as we're in the midst of a big storm right now, could lose power any second. Have a good evening all. XX

I got tired of no movement in this case, so backed off for a long while. Well, I started thinking about Haleigh again and refreshed my memory on some things, and this is what I think. I think LE has enough evidence to charge Tommy Croslin, but they're chicken sh/*t. If you let go of all the extra cr*/ap and unnecessary details, what's left, leads right back to Tommy. These were some sorry parents, sorry grandparents and sorry friends, but they all didn't murder Haleigh...although they made it a lot easier. Not saying he did this alone, (although I happen to think he did), but if LE goes and gets him, he'll rat out anybody else.

Adoptive parents of Erica Parsons arrested on fraud charges

WCNC Staff and Tony Burbeck, WCNC
6:55 p.m. EDT July 30, 2014

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- The adoptive parents of Erica Parsons were arrested on federal fraud charges Wednesday morning.

Sandy and Casey Parsons were arrested on a federal criminal indictment charging them with fraud, United States Attorney Ripley Rand announced.

Casey and Sandy are out of federal custody, but are required to wear electronic monitoring as a condition of their release stemming from their arrest on multiple fraud charges Wednesday.

The indictment alleges that, from February 2010 to August 2013, Sandy Parsons, 40, and Casey Parsons, 39, committed tax fraud, mail fraud, theft of government funds, and identity theft, and engaged in a conspiracy to defraud the government.

The indictment alleges that the Parsonses received government funded adoption assistance, Medicaid, Social Security, and Food and Nutrition Services benefits for a dependent that did not live with them and used the mail to commit the fraud.

The indictment also alleges that Casey Parsons fraudulently used the identities of other persons as dependents and used other false information when preparing federal tax returns.

Sandy and Casey Parsons are charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the government, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; 20 counts of theft of government funds, each of which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; and 20 counts of mail fraud, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The indictment also charges Sandy Parsons with one count of aggravated identity theft, which carries a mandatory sentence of two years, consecutive to any other sentence, and a $250,000 fine; and one count of false statement to a government agency, which carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Casey Parsons is also charged with one count of false pretense in a health care matter, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; two counts of Social Security fraud, each of which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; fifteen counts of aggravated identity theft, each of which carries a mandatory sentence of two years, consecutive to any other sentence, and a $250,000 fine; two counts of false statement to a government agency, each of which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; six counts of aiding in the preparation of a false tax return, each of which carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine; six counts of wire fraud, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine; and one count of making false claim against the government, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Both Casey and Sandy Parsons were visibly ticked and refused to answer questions or make statements after leaving court in Winston-Salem Wednesday afternoon.

NBC Charlotte asked Sandy Parsons why he was arrested and charged if he and Casey did nothing wrong as they have claimed for the last year, but got no answer.

Wednesday marks the one year anniversary of that reported disappearance by Erica's brother Jamie Parsons. The last time immediate family members saw Erica at the family home in Salisbury was November, 2011.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office also announced an increased reward for Erica's return. Prevent Child Abuse, a local group, put forth $5,000 and the sheriff's office added $10,000 to its original $10,000. The total award now stands at $50,000.

Investigators say they are making progress, but questions remain whether Erica's disappearance is a crime. They say it should be clear now why they cancelled a press conference scheduled for Tuesday.

From the beginning Casey and Sandy Parsons say they've done nothing wrong except let Erica live with someone they thought was her biological grandmother. That turned out not to be true.

Family attorney Carlyle Sherrill says it appears there isn't much new investigators have uncovered. Sherrill says Casey and Sandy Parsons answer investigators' questions on a regular basis and offer any help they can.

"It says they don't have any evidence to proceed with any charges against Sandy and Casey," Sherrill said.

"What would they be arrested for? There's no evidence we know of of any crime being committed. Yes, Casey and Sandy were mistaken in who this Nan was, and it's been since last September they realized Nan wasn't who they thought she was and they sent Erica off with someone they didn't know."

Investigators are still gathering and analyzing evidence but are keeping mum about the evidence they have, including red stains found on the floorboards inside the family home.

Investigators say when they locate Erica, it will reveal what if any crime has occurred, and by whom.

"We want to find Erica and hopefully over 11 months you can have more progress than we've had, but you've got to go with what you've got," Sherrill said.

To investigators, it's progress on a case that won't close until they find Erica. To neighbors, it's a year-long search that hasn't revealed enough.

The federal fraud case was investigated by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigations.

Jamie Parsons on parents' arrest:'Momma knew they were coming'

Posted: Jul 30, 2014 8:48 AM CDT
Updated: Jul 30, 2014 9:33 PM CDT
By Chris Dyches

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV)- The adoptive parents of Erica Parsons appeared before a federal judge on Wednesday afternoon, hours after they were arrested on dozens of fraud charges.

Casey and Sandy Parsons were arrested at their Fayetteville home on Wednesday morning around 6 a.m. by federal agents and charged with 76 counts of fraud-related crimes.

Their son, Jamie Parsons, told WBTV that federal agents kicked the door in, guns drawn, when they came to serve the warrants on his parents.

He also said that over the previous two days, his mother indicated that she knew she was going to be arrested.

"Momma said she knew that they were coming. She had a feeling they were coming," Jamie said.

Erica Parsons was reported missing on July 30, 2013 by her adoptive brother, Jamie Parsons, who said she had not been seen since November 2011. She was 13 years old when she disappeared.

The Parsons moved to Fayetteville in August 2013 after Erica's disappearance made national headlines. Federal agents picked up the couple around 6 a.m. and drove them to a federal courthouse in Winston-Salem.

They appeared before a federal judge at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Casey and Sandy Parsons both asked for court-appointed attorneys and were granted the request by the judge.

The government requested each be held in prison on a $25,000 secured bond, meaning they'd be able to get out of prison by posting $2,500. They told the judge they would not be able to get that amount of money.

The judge then granted each of them a $25,000 unsecured bond and they were released from jail.

Both will be held on an electronic monitoring system. The details around their restrictions is still being worked out.

A melee broke out as the Parsons left the courthouse Wednesday. Surrounded by media, Casey pushed aside microphones to get in the back of a car driven by a young man who was with the Parsons' daughter, Brooklyn.

The driver hit the gas, but Brooklyn wasn't all the way in the car and she fell out onto the ground. Brooklyn Parsons got up quickly and got back in the car as it left a parking deck.

According to the fraud indictment filed against the couple, from February 2010 to August 2013, Sandy Parsons, 40, and Casey Parsons, 39, committed tax fraud, mail fraud, theft of government funds, and identity theft, and engaged in a conspiracy to defraud the government.

Their son, Jamie, said he was surprised to hear how many charges his parents were facing.

"I didn't think it would be so many charges... At all," he said, "I would think there would be like one or two."

The indictment alleges that the Parsons received government funded adoption assistance, Medicaid, Social Security, and Food and Nutrition Services benefits for a dependent that did not live with them and used the mail to commit the fraud.

The indictment also alleges that Casey Parsons fraudulently used the identities of other persons as dependents and used other false information when preparing federal tax returns.

Sandy and Casey Parsons are charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the government, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; twenty counts of theft of government funds, each of which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; and twenty counts of mail fraud, each of which carries a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Casey Parsons is also charged with one count of false pretense in a health care matter, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; two counts of Social Security fraud, each of which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; fifteen counts of aggravated identity theft, each of which carries a mandatory sentence of two years, consecutive to any other sentence, and a $250,000 fine; two counts of false statement to a government agency, each of which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; six counts of aiding in the preparation of a false tax return, each of which carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine; six counts of wire fraud, each of which carries a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison and a $250,000 fine; and one count of making false claim against the government, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Sandy and Casey Parsons are scheduled to have their initial appearance at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Winston-Salem.

The financial dealings of the Parsons came into the investigation at the earliest stage.

When Erica's adoptive brother James Parsons first reported Erica missing in July, he told investigators that Sandy and Casey continued to receive checks from the state of North Carolina. The checks amounted to a little over $600 per month.

The Parsons' attorney, Carlyle Sherrill, admitted in October 2013 that his clients did receive the checks, but said that they had a right to since they were the legal caregivers for Erica Parsons.

But when the home along Miller Chapel Road in Salisbury was searched by investigators on August 14, they "failed to locate any evidence of Erica Parsons still living here or any evidence that her room or personal living area still remained in the home."

They further concluded that "Sandy and Casey Parsons knew Erica would not be returning." In addition, according to an SBI search warrant, "Casey Stone Parsons and Sandy Parsons, Sr., stated Erica was adopted and that they received financial aid after Erica left their custody in 2011."

There is also a history to consider when it comes to financial matters and the Parsons.

Amy Miller, a Michigan woman, says she hired Casey Parsons to carry her child August 2001. Miller says Parsons claimed to have a miscarriage, but didn't. Five months later, Miller was finally able track down Parson and take home her son. She has the DNA test to prove he is hers.

Three years later, according to court records, Sandy and Casey Parsons took Erica, then 6 years old, to live with another family member. That family member told investigators "they took custody of Erica for about 8 months after Casey Parsons called them and said she could not stand to look at Erica."

In addition, according to court documents, "after about 8 months Casey Stone Parsons resumed custody of Erica and said that she was afraid that the Department of Social Services would find out that she did not have her and she was still getting money for her." At that time Erica returned to the home of Sandy and Casey Parsons.

As the current investigation continued, on August 12, 2013, the SBI learned from BB&T on Jake Alexander Boulevard in Salisbury that Casey and Sandy Parsons had accounts at the bank that included recent activity.

The FBI also found records through the PayPal accounts of Sandy and Casey Parsons that they had financial accounts with SunTrust Bank on W. Innes Street, Salisbury, Wells Fargo on S. Main Street in Salisbury, and Bank of America on W. Innes Street, Salisbury.

The SBI believes that "the continued desire to utilize the funds, proceeds, or financial assistance intended for the care and benefit of Erica Lynn Parsons resulted in the delay or outright denial to report Erica Lynn Parsons missing in a timely or reasonable time frame."

The SBI concluded in October 2013 that "this institutes probable cause to believe a crime, obtaining property by false pretenses, has occurred."

Financial records were seized during a search of the Parsons Rowan County home back in August 2013.

A list of seized inventory includes a Wells Fargo deposit slip, a Wells Fargo check and withdrawal slip for Shirley B. Parsons, the daughter of Casey Parsons, and several other items that could have dealt with financial records.

All of the financial records and documents seized from the house, a storage shed, and the various banks were processed by the FBI.

Oh.My.God...! It's about time, WAYYY past time! Thank you Zazz. for posting these extensive news articles. How in HELL these people thought they could get away with all these crimes for so long is the big mystery; I guess, they feel that once you get away with one offense, then another one, and another and another, that no one will ever touch them. Jeezle Pete, even their ill-informed and stupid lawyer made comments implying that they were entitled to these child support monies because they still had legal custody. How stupid can you get!

The Feds sure waited long enough before tying their lose ends together. HOWEVER, it is still disappointing that a judge allowed them to walk out of the court house on a very small unsecured bond. I just can't believe these judges!

One would think that with so many FEDERAL charges against Casey & Sandy that they would have mandatorily have had to present themselves before a federal judge and that federal guidelines would have prevented them from being released on such a small bond, if at all. IF the charges as filed really do carry all these stiff sentences, at least they BOTH will serve some time.

NOW, where's poor little battered and abused, likely DEAD, Erica? I really don't believe that ANYTHING will make any of them talk. I really don't.

Judge denies Terri Horman's request to change her name

Posted: Aug 04, 2014 1:45 PM CDT
Updated: Aug 04, 2014 1:51 PM CDT
By FOX 12 Staff

ROSEBURG, OR (KPTV)- Terri Horman's request to change her name to Claire Sullivan has been denied by a judge in Southern Oregon.

She has been linked to the disappearance of Kyron Horman ever since he disappeared from Skyline School on June 4, 2010. Police had said Terri Horman was the last person to see Kyron that day. She was never arrested in that case.

Late last year, Terri and Kaine Horman finalized their divorce, and Kaine Horman was granted legal custody of their 5-year-old daughter six months later.

Terri Horman lives with family in Roseburg. Her full legal name is Terri Lynn Moulton Horman, and her request was to change it to Claire Stella Sullivan.

Throughout Terri Horman's divorce, custody and name change proceedings, the biological mother of Kyron Horman has continued to heap pressure on her. In June, Desiree Young told FOX 12 that Terri Horman failed three lengthy polygraph tests when questioned by investigators about the boy's disappearance.

Young continues to say she will keep putting pressure on Terri Horman by sharing new details in the case, even without the blessing of investigators, in an effort to find her son.

Hi Ann. That was for sure a lot of reading but this is one of the cases I follow.

I totally agree, these SOBs should be in a cage, not roaming around free.

I think Erica is dead and has been for years, since the beginning. I just wonder why they murdered her. What did they do that she could tell?

I only hope her death was quick but I doubt that, they are two monsters.

Hope your health is improving. You're in my prayers.

Life in her hands: Arias will be own attorney

By Amanda Sloane
updated3:42 PM EDT, Tue August 05, 2014

Jodi Arias will represent herself and try to persuade a jury not to give her the death penalty when her new sentencing trial gets underway in September.

Arias appeared in court Monday to provide an oral motion to act as her own attorney. Arizona Judge Sherry Stephens, however, warned Arias against self-representation when making her ruling on the matter, according to Vincent Funari, public information officer for the Superior Court of Arizona.

"I do not believe it is in your best interests," Stephens said, according to the Arizona Republic. "I stronglyurge you to re consider."

In May 2013, a jury found Arias guilty of first-degree murder in the brutal 2008 slaying of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander.

While jurors were unanimous in their decision to convict Arias, they could not come to an agreement on whether to sentence her to the death penalty or life in prison. A new jury, tasked with making a decision regarding sentencing alone, will be selected for Ariasí retrial, which is scheduled to begin September 8.

If the new jury in the retrial cannot reach a unanimous verdict, Arias will automatically get life in prison.

However, the judge will decide whether Arias will get life without parole or life with the eligibility of parole after 25 years.

Arias and her defense attorneys, Kirk Nurmi and Jennifer Willmott, have made attempts in the past to severe their relationship with each other.
In November, Stephens denied a request from Arias asking that Nurmi be tossed from the case. In a 12-page hand-written letter to Stephens, Arias said she hadnít spoken with Nurmi for months and she claimed that he had "little to no tolerance for my emotional and psychological shortcomings."

The judge also denied requests from Nurmi and Willmott, who wanted off the case in May 2013 after Arias gave an interview to Phoenix TV station KSAZ following the juryís guilty verdict. Arias told KSAZ's Troy Hayden she would "rather get death than life."

The attorneys asked a second time to withdraw from the case during the penalty phase of the trial, after their request for a mistrial was denied. They requested a mistrial after a defense witness, Arias' childhood friend Patricia Womack, declined to testify, saying she received multiple death threats.

Arias wonít be flying completely solo as she stands before the new group of jurors in September. Nurmi and Willmott will be retained in advisory roles, according to the court.

If Arias decides that she is in over her head, then Stephens said she would appoint new counsel.

But Stephens had this warning for Arias, according to the newspaper: "There will be no do-overs."
