Yet another drunk driver who gets to keep his life, while costing two other people their lives. If we could guarentee that drunk drivers only kill themselves, then I wouldn't care and say let them drink. But, as we see here, too often it is others who die from the actions of the drunk. A note for all future passengers: Do NOT get into a car if you know/suspect the driver is impaired through alcohol or drugs. You may find yourself without a ride, or be thought of as "uncool" or "a drag", but you will be alive and able to read these stories in the future.

It has nothing to do with Drunk Driving. The DMV will give anyone, and mean anyong 16 yrs and older a drivers license, even if they don't know how to drive.

It's so rediculous in California that there is no pre examination or test to see if someone knows how to drive before they are hired by the California Highway Patrol or as a Police Officer.

I can't even imagine how the families of these 2 girls feel.. I want to ask the question but don't mean it in a harsh way, since they paid the ultimate price with their life.. WHY WERE THEY IN THE CAR WITH HIM!! I can only wonder if they were all partying and weren't aware that he was in NO condition to drive??
Man, I have a 15 y.o. daughter and she constantly rolls her eyes at me when she hears me saying I'd pick her up at 4am rather than her getting in a car to drive herself or with anyone else.. my sympathies for the families..

sounds like Alan had a history.. too bad he had to kill 2 ppl before being stopped.. if he was just recently stopped and arrested more than once.. WHY he was even on the streets is beyond me. sounds like he needs jail time to get himself right.. however, he may not get out with a double manslaughter charge.. I hope it was worth it for him. what a waste.

It wasn't an accident. The d*** police didn't add kidnapping. Which is a whole different thing. This guy should have never been driving in the first place, but getting the State to see it that way will take years. What he did and how thousands of others drive should be considered a violent crime.

this mcconnell guy is a major p.o.s.! he'll sit in prison, eat 3 meals a day and have a roof over his head, and probally get a college diploma on the taxpayers dime. we need to bring back public hangings and fast. that will be the only deterent for future killers of all types!

This can't be blamed on the DMV, Courts, Police, parents, etc. It's the DRIVERS fault. Period. He's a irresponsible little ass, and I hope he enjoys his new wash n' wear clothes. Hopefully, he won't do this again when he gets out. No bets on that, though.

This is so sad, I know both of these girls I've known Lasie since I was 3 years old. This has been such a sad day, and I have to tell all her friends. Please pray for her, and her family they really need it.As well as for Renee, they were both two beautiful people. Please know that every moment you spend with your loved ones could be the last, so make the most of your time with your loved ones. I wish I got to say goodbye :-(

Drunken piece of crap. This scum-bag better get 30 years to Life. Why the hell was he driving with a suspended license ? Because he could and no one stops him. Where is the enforcement ,cops? You impotent fools can't do anything. When these scumbags get arrested for drunk driving impound their cars and keep them. Keep the damn cars and if they are convicted. Smash the cars. This is a start. Also there should be monitoring. No enforcement means more innocent deaths. Why didn't this piece of crap die? Stupid scriggly scum bag piece of dog dung son of a b--h.

You must be 15 because you really sound dumb. To be hired as a police officer or CHP, beside the training, you must go through a thorough background check where even your neighbors, past teachers, friends and family are interviewed to make sure you have no skeletons in your closet.

Now in regards to this story, unfortunately nobody can really control other people's stupid actions that will affect them for life. And as much as we all wish that once you are caught driving under the influcence you are put away for many years, it's not going to happen -- this is America not a 3rd world country. Sadly, the innocent pay the price.

How many times must someone be arrested for drunk driving before they LOCK THEM UP FOR GOOD!!! Really...two DUI charges, and then arrested TWICE in the last week for driving when he wasn't supposed to be before this happens????? Something is seriously wrong with the system. My prayers are with the families of the two girls who are paying the price.

I feel terrible for the girls families, and also for those young girls having end their lives so soon, and suddenly! But why didnt anyone take the car keys knowing that none of them should be driving.?? It is not only the drivers fault for this it is whoever saw them getting into that car and let them drive away as well! DONT just blame the driver!
