Pomona board plans meeting on picking superintendent before new...

Board members of the Pomona Unified School District have scheduled a special meeting on Nov.

Let's not make this into a sandbox politicial banter- pick the superintendent and get on with it. Most of the people who were elected as new board members took part in the interview so let the outgoing board make their selection. This happen once before where the community selected a certain superintendent, and the new board wanted to select and ended up with Leier!
Don't play politicial dodge ball just do it!

The current school board went through a pretty good public process, and the new school board members were welcome to take part. One of them did, and the other (Rothman) didn't. It would be silly to wait another month or more to appoint a enw superintendent until he's had a chance to personally interview the six candidates who already went though literally days of interviews with the school board, unions, parents, and other community members.

It is too bad it has come down to this. The outgoing board picks the superintendent the incoming board has to work with. The incoming board then makes the outgoing board the scape goat for the "bad decision" made, and creates an acrimonious environment in which the superintendent leaves early and receives a huge buyout. Of course the new board puts the blame on the outgoing board for the "bad" choice.

While I am not wild about the 2 new board members (especially Junior Rothman who is trying to create a new profession at the expense of the rest of us), I think the old board should let the new board make the selection, so that if it is deemed a bad choice THEY ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY, not blame in on the outgoing board.

Too much money has been wasted by various government agencies on Superindents, City Managers, and other positions of this type. Don't give the new board any excuses. Just wait a little more. By the way if Martinez winds up with the job, what difference does the wait make?
