Why does she not have to repay the full amount? The kids get nothing out of her jail time, community service, or probation... This system is so not fair.

P.S. Is that $25k tax free or does she have to claim it on her taxes???????

Jack, You raise a great question! Hey I hear people that have lost their house to foreclosure have to pay taxes on the amount of money they defaulted on.

Not anymore, it's waived, but you do have to pay taxes on the difference when you settle with your credit card company. The difference is considered income and is taxed.

If you get your home value decreased by a certain amount (through a loan mod), more likely than not, you will get a 1099 for the amount of debt that was written off. There ARE ways around it, and you can get an attorney to take care of all of that for you for less than what you would end up paying in taxes to the IRS/FTB.

Did someone forget this is about the kids who suffered the loss. Shame on her. I bet s some of that money on me at one time. I am ashamed to call you my friend! I trusted you and your integrity and you let me down by publicly admitting your guilt. What a horrible disgrace to your family and to the community. You portrayed yourself as positive role model and dedicated to your services. I am sad for you.

Hmmm.... I thought it was a new thing(give away). So you still need an attorney, thats interesting. I wonder how many people have actually gotten a loan mod?

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Taurus

Someone is very short-tempered, and they're liable to fly off the handle at a moment's notice. Maybe they're feeling vulnerable in some way or are desperately trying to defend what they see as their territory. Be sensitive to this and don't goad them into being even more irritable or upset than they are already. Frankly, it's just not worth it.
