I witnessed this tragedy first hand..
L.A. County fire responded very slow and totally under maned from the start...
I have seen many total losses to fire since Pomona has given up her own fire Dept for Money reasons...
Their were barely enough police available to block streets let alone help evacuate residents...
This is a Sad time for all in Pomona...
Fire service in Barely adequate and crimes here are more than all surrounding cities...

The house destroyed is The Garden a beautiful old home and business with a great couple that gives out love to the neighborhood and community. It was a extremely large fire and tragic as all the residents can tell because all gathered to hope for the best. There shouldn't be angry negative comments or who should have done this or comments that are misleading. Hope that all our safe and hope for the best for all the residents of the structures that were affected. Do find out what started the fire and prevent it from happening again at all costs

Losing The Garden is a huge loss to the community. I hope they are able to get re-established in the future.

Very sad. A sign of times to come with less money to battle crime and fight fires. Pomona is in for some hard times in the near future. Shootings are up, deaths will be up soon enough. Have you noticed more people being shot as you read about Pomona in papers? More people being struck by vehicles? Yes. Just as I predicted. Pomona's leaders will blame everyone but themselves.

Not really less money to fight fires - fire department kept everything they had plus more! Remember? No cuts to fire, and how many millions in cuts to police?

Way to go la county fire! They were slow to get there because they had to finish waxing their new boats behind the firehouse! Plus it wasn't one of their houses. Pomona wake up and go back to city fire and kick these county boys back to LA!

There seems to be an awful lot of sheds, garage housing, 'additions' , shrub overgrowth and 'converted housing' on those Gordon Street blocks. Hope Code Enforcement will look at it now... there are children and families living in dangerous difficult conditions in this area.

The City Of Pomona CHOSE to bring in LA County because of costs. Many of the city fire folks now work for the County. It makes no difference and as far as waxing their boats, at least they take care of their property which is something that MANY of Pomona residents can't truthfully say. They sit back on therir butts, holding their peter and wish for handouts, screw them!

Dawn & Fred are the dearest, nicest people. I am so glad that they are safe but am saddened that this happened.
The two homes out on Garey Ave are irreplacable being 100+ years old. Such a shame.

All the negative comments towards Police and Fire personnel needs to stop already. Fires, as well as other disasters happen. Which way they go and how they end up cannot be blamed on the personnel that risk life and limb to save the property and the lives of those who live there. Yes, it is a tragedy that so much of Pomona history was lost and that several families lost their very livelihood (I pray that they come through it all OK), but if anyone or anything is to blame why not concentrate on the area in which the fire started and who owns it and what they may have been doing there that may have started the blaze. Commendations to the fire and police personnel who worked hard all Saturday afternoon into Sunday and continue to work to keep citizens safe. And to a one Larry Henry who seemed to hunt down every media outlet possible to voice his opinion on how the firefighters did "nothing" to save his home, "You are still alive!, Be Grateful you didn't burn along with your home."

The sad part is, being in Pomona, the burnt down houses will probably make way for the addition of much needed 99 cent stores...
