Deep in the throws of an education crisis, we're now learning California colleges and universities are admitting thousands of students who don't make the grade. It is called admission-by-exception and the 10-campus U.C. system is really going for it, increasing its admission-by-exception by 60 percent in 2010.
http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story...
Or is a story written 11 months ago outdated?

How about straight from the UC website:

[QUOTE]Sometimes even the most creative, focused and intellectually passionate students aren't able to fulfill our admission requirements. Even these students have a chance to attend UC. Some students are home-schooled and don't have transcripts. Others have life circumstances that have prevented them living up to their promise. The list is endless. If you believe you have the ability and potential to succeed at UC, you may qualify for admission by exception.

Hey, we understand. I just shattered (for the 20th time) your perception of UCLA and you're in the "denial" stage of the 5 stages of grief. Next comes anger, but I think you've already combined that in with the denial stage. You've been stuck in those two stages for far too long. Time to move on.

And from the Academic Senate at UCLA:
Notwithstanding the requirements for freshman admission specified in SR 419, 424, 440, and 450, campuses may admit applicants who do not satisfy the
University’s minimum requirements, provided that the proportion of the enrolled freshman class admitted in this manner does not exceed six (6) percent.

These are regulations that went into effect for the Fall 2012 freshman class. Is this outdated as well?

He admitted about a month that he could never be objective about USC. So, we shouldn't be surprised that he can't give USC credit where credit is due.

In his eyes, anything associated with UCLA will always be good and anything associated with USC will always be bad.

you haven't shattered anything...fact remains UCLA has the toughest admission standards for student athletes in the nation for public universities and third overall only behind Notre Dame and Stanford...Mr Research Buff, can you prove me wrong??

That may be true. But GT's triple option offense will pose problems for us, too. Not to mention the fact it's a big let down game for us.

I hope LK gets the kids up for it!

Oh Mister Traveler, we are definitely afraid of being matched up against Baylor :/

What my fellow Bruins try not to mention is that if we lose our last 3 games of the season we will finish at 9-5, fail to win 10 games and not even finish in the Top 25. That is not turning the corner :(

Go Bruins, our bowl game is no Holiday!

Please Mister CPEM you must try to understand the Bruin side of things. We have had such porous seasons for so many years, that this season has been the closest thing to a non-dream for us in many moons :)

Now of course with a loss to Baylor, and we will realize that corner we turned was right into a dead end alley :(

Go Bruins, let the dream continue for 15 more days!

Not really, everything I posted was reported as allegedly occurring within the USC program, I'm not making shit up in my posts the only thing you got me on is my exaggeration about UCLA making ZERO exceptions for student athletes admissions, which according to the article you posted a link if, said 2% exceptions for student athletes, and I'm giving you credit even though that story from 2004-2005 school year....but I noticed you have not replied Tony challenge of proving me wrong about UCLA having the toughest admission standards for public universities and third overall behind Notre Dame and Stanford. To really see the type of student athletes UCLA and USC us allowing into their programs , all you gotta do listen to them talk! any fool that listens to interviews can see most of the usc players can't even put a sentence together... CPEM you're in denial, SC recruits athletes first students second. Any blind fool can see that. LMFAO

No, what's hilarious is that you still can't comprehend that what UCLA does with regard to admissions is not a choice. They are a public school and a very PC one, at that.

I don't know what made me do it but I did...I read EVERY page looking and searching where it says that student athletes, more specifically that "football players" got preferential treatment when it came to admissions at UCLA, and I FOUND NOTHING that remotely implied UCLA made exceptions within their admission standards...after-all, we are talking about football, CORRECT? So, i ask you Mr. Analyst, what was all that BS for, to deflect all my points made against USC and their cheating football program? that's exactly what you are doing...FOOTBALL, AND THE ATHLETES PLAYING THE SPORT IS THE SUBJECT, REMEMBER?

I don't give a rat's ass about all the academic standards within the the UC systems, every schools takes a different approach as to whom gets admitted. For example my son applied to UCLA, UC Irvine, UCSB and UC Riverside, and was accepted at all of them, except UCLA, why? because UCLA had 57,000 applicants in 2011 and over 81,000 in 2012 and only 13,000 were accepted, my son did not make the cut for UCLA, he had a GPA of 3.8 - but he did get accepted at the other 3 and he ended up choosing UCSB...so all that mumble jumble in that link is not applicable in every case, it's about supply and demand, and the demand for a UCLA education is higher than any other university in the world with over 81,000 applicants this last spring, and it wasn't even close to the next runner up.

Not really, Cal makes exceptions every year with the players they admit into the school, while UCLA does not. For years boosters and alumni have been barking at UCLA for not doing the same thing Cal does, how do you think Marshawn Lynch and DeSean Jackson got there? DeAnthony Thomas' first choice was UCLA but UCLA stopped recruiting him when he didn't pass a test during the recruiting process. Hell I wish! UCLA made exceptions...furthermore I wish UCLA wasn't so damn hard ass on players by kicking them out of school for making bonehead judgments like grabbing a chick's ass or getting caught stealing a lap-top, unfortunately they take a very hard stance on it, I wish they would give them a second chance when they screw up, but they don't.

The ONLY major California school that doesn't relax their standards one bit for athletes is Stanford.
