My heartfelt prayers go out to the families of all involved. I cringe everytime I hear or read about an accident along this stretch of highway. Crossover's concern me because with the amount of traffic along this area, evasive actions seem to be of little control. I to almost ran into someone trying to get on 26 from the exit/entrance ramp. It's too short and vehicles go so fast or are so close together one may not be able to get over to let incoming vehicles on to 26. The bad thing about these accidents is the publis will never know what really happen because that's not reported in the news. To me it would help (some) to know the details of some incidents/accidents. At least it would elevate to some degree the jump to conclusions that I normally see during these comments. Folks are quick to pass judgement without first finding out the facts. We get there is an investigation pending but don't get the ending facts to back it up. May all involved be blessed during this time.

Shortly after i woke up this morning (i sleep late, call me a nighthawk), we got a call from my sister. Her voice was shaky and she asked to speak to my father. She was driving the white car that was in this accident.
Apparently the driver of the other car had a stroke and thats why the car went across the median. She said it went under the wires. She said she didn't think it was going to run into her, maybe they were going to make a u-turn or something. I won't give out her name, and I don't know the names of the 2 people who died.
She is all bruised up and her back is really messed up, she also has a pretty bad burn from the seatbelt.
Anyways, my mother and I are going down to see them tomorrow.
As for those of you who think some moron decided it might be fun to drive on the wrong side of the road... like i said, i heard that the driver of the other car had a stroke.
Don't take my word for it tho, as the autopsies are scheduled for tomorrow, so we will all know more then.
My condolences to the family and friends of those who died.

May God be with you and your family during this time.

The median cables were an excellent safety addition to our interstate system. Since their instillation they have saved numerous lives. From August 2000 to July 2003 (the research years) the cables were hit 3000 times in SC. Only 15 vehicles went through the cables. What would have happened if all 3000 had crossed the interstate?

In NC the cable barriers have reduced cross over accidents by 90%. The cables are an excellent safety addition to our interstate system.

Concrete barriers are not the answer. They do not install well on sloped terrain (which is what SC has). Be thankful for the safety addition! Sometimes you just can't help unfortunate ACCIDENTS. They do happen.

Well Bub, since we don't know what happened as of yet, I dout very seriously that extra law enforcement would have helped. Don't blame accidents on the amount of law enforcementon the roads, you blame wrecks on the neglect of people driving these vehicles and trucks and motorcycles!!!! Put the blame where it belongs, careless driving!
It isn't always careless driving...the driver had a stroke behind the wheel, and was dead before she crossed the median. not something one plans before they travel. My heart goes out to all the victims in this unfortunate accident.

I am amazed at the outrage expressed over the loss of life from the Iraq war ... as awful as it is, more lives are lost each day here in the "safe" USA, than in the whole time of the war, put together! Dead is dead! Where is the outrage for murder by vehicle (drunk driving, speeding, road rage) This may not have been the reason for this tragic loss of lives, but we need a wake up call!

I totally agree with Tippy!! Last year over 40,000 people died on America's roads. Where are the daily counts of lives lost on our roads like the daily counts of lives lost in Iraq? I understand that the loss of life anywhere is horrible, but I think we need more awareness of the dangers of reckless driving.

Heads up to all of you that are graduating in the next couple of weeks. Be careful and PLEASE do not drink and drive after you celebrate. You are worth more!

If people would obey the speed limit, and quit flying up behind other people flashing their high beams trying to move over, maybe, just maybe the accidents would decrease. People watch the races on TV or get these high performance European Touring Cars and think they can drive better than they actually can.

This was a terrible accident.
I would bet money that most accidents are caused by distracted driving not speeding. People who talk on phones, eat breakfast and other things need to be ticketed for reckless driving. When you get in your car pay attention and drive. Oh yeah the left lane is for PASSING other drivers not cruising next to the car in the right lane.

This area has become very congested in the last few years. The developers keep building but nothing is done to the infrastructure of our roads there. Anyone even considering moving to that area needs to drive there and back during the traffic times. You will change your minds!! Whenever there is a wreck it is almost impossible to get around it. There are just TWO ways in and out of the area and Broad River Rd becomes even a bigger nightmare to drive with it coming to a standstill.

Isn't that the truth, but I will say one thing, I fly and drive all over the country and every other state is just as bad as this one or worse! Condolences to the families involved!

So much for the much touted barriers. It would help much more if the drivers would just drive safely and sanely. So very few do in this state!

Why not plant trees in the median? They help with pollution, will stop vehicles of all shapes and sizes from crossing over AND are less expensive than other options.

Ok, you want the truth. Every life lost in Iraq, every soldier injured permanently in Iraq, was based on many lies an deceits. The average age of a soldier dying in Iraq/Afganistan is 19 to 24. But yet we continue to protect the freedom of the government. Any life lost to a accident is terrible, but for a life to be lost on Foreign soil with the chance it may never be recover and returned to it's family in one identifible piece is something. I will say 20 lives lost in the past 3 weeks alone on SC highways is tooo many. God be with all the families and all of you who travel the Memorial Day weekend. As a soldier I just hate to hear one of my felloe comrades has died or is missing, just as I'm very disturbed when I read about an accident involving death. I have 3 boys and a daughter, and like someone else stated, my heart races until I talk to them and know they are all ok. Sorry so long.
