Did I read the paper correctly, cops were given gifts by the police chief for writing the most tickets, among other things? This town is getting worse by the second. A manager that overcharges citizens, and now a chief that rewards his officers for giving tickets, whats next. This town needs a cleaning up. If the attorney general gets wind of this he may instruct a state investigation to come down on this town. The manager and chief need to be suspended and possibly fired, something needs to be done to save this town some embarrassment. If they has any integrity, they would resign.

C'mon, you know Carl Weber better than that. You really think he's playing that kind of game? Gift cards, hell. Forget that noise, Carl is a good man.

Spoke w/ some people today and also read it for myself in the paper, Carl admitted to buying the cards and setting it up himself. what more proof does one need? He admitted it. It was a reward game to give his guys more incentive to do a better job, unfortunately it is not legal. They need to call one of them there special meetings and get to the bottom of this and take action. Only wonder what else goes on in this town, shake downs for free bojangles?

This is an opportunity for a class action lawsuit as I see it. There could be many hispanics that were targets of these gift card prowling policemen. Any hispanics wanting to start such a case please contact me and you will be on the list of benefactors.. If you recieved a ticket in marshville in past year then look me up, offices in monroe y charlotte. Raul Mendosa

Well, I'll stand with Carl on this. If he did something, it was with the best in mind, not some shady Roscoe P Coltrain/Boss Hogg kind of doings. Any good business owner might reward good production occasionally. It can't be easy being a policeman in this rinky-dink podunk town. The working conditions are terrible, but the pay is lousy. Give Carl a break. You could end up with a whole lot worse chief.

So I guess what your saying is that you believe there shouldnt be an issue with this? Your opinion and I respect that. My concern would be that if the town permits such things as this and it is illegal, and our chief is doing it, then what else should we overlook? Is it ok if the police stop a man for speeding and find drugs in his car, and they take it home for personal use? Where does it stop? When people have a government job they are held to a higher standard, they are representing the town. They must abide by the law at all times. Why does it seem to be so difficult to do your job with integrity? What if you were ticketed by one of his hired guns? There were residents that were ticketed for 32 mph in a 30 zone. This is unheard of anywhere else, but when a gift card can be won because of one ticket it changes the mindset of people. As the chief he should know better. Has anyone ever heard of a bonus program for ticket writers? Its illegal and he should have known it and the manager should have known as well. If in question they dont do until they know for sure. There is no excuse. I am not for a firing, but a public reprimand is in order. Possibly he needs more training.

Carl Webber is a good man, as good as they come. I'm sure you haven't got the facts. Marshville should be grateful to have a Chief and force of this quality. I am telling you this is a man of integrity, because I know it to be so. He's not handing out bonuses for ticket writers and this is not Hazzard County. You should be glad he's as tolerant as he is. If I were a chief or a sheriff, I'd be raiding every door for illegals and chartering planes to push them out with parachutes in lower Mexico.

I think Carl is a good man, also. He's taking the heat for something he was probably ordered to do as an incentive. I think the disgruntled people are someone wanting the job of chief or jealous of his position. I've never heard one bad thing about him, unlike some of the other policemen on the force that have been let go for some reason or other. He's been a good representative in this town and I'm glad he's the chief. He's always nice and respectful to everyone he talks to, even those who constantly give him a hard time.

Sorry there Marshville Citizen 19, but cant agree with busting down doors for illegals, the bonuses would be nothing compared to the lawsuits that would be on the town if he did such things. The fact is the police here are good men, do a good job, but once in awhile make a mistake. I am not advocating a firing of the chief, but a reprimand is in order and another black mark on the manager for approving a bonus program that she should have approached with caution, dont you think. I have known Carl for close to 20 years, talk with him at least once a month, and find him to be a nice person. He was manager here for a few years and did a good job until he left to go back into policing. His position is such that people will critique his every move, and he needs to check himself before people do. As for "Love this Town" commenting that it could be a ploy from other officers or jealousy, you are about as ridiculous as they come. The police staff all like Carl and have no animosity toward him, they all respect him as they know he tries to do all he can for them, even as far to buy the gift cards with money from his own pocket to give a bonus to his men, as the manager did not budget a raise for the police this year. Read the paper and see the facts for yourselves. Page B-5 top of page. Monroe paper.

Someone wants his job??????? Yes, I would love to have his job, Being Elliot Ness sounds good to me, bust into doors, snatch up the mexicans, snare the drug dealers, ticket speeders, kick a$$ and take names, etc. Did I forget to mention get my a$$ shot at while doing all this? Wearing a heavy bullet proof vest everywhere I go, always looking behind me in case a felon comes back for revenge, being under a microscope 24/7. Work nights and weekends. Have my family worry if I will return home after my shift. After these comparables I must decline, NO THANKS! Not for me.

Let me get this straight.... He paid his guys reward money to write you folks tickets, and you defend him???? He openly admitted to doing it!!!!! WOW... No wonder that town is in such a mess!!

Not defending him, but not willing to string him up either. He made a mistake and should be held accountable, no doubt. But this council has a laundry list of issues with a manager and seem to look the other way so I dont expect any action on him either. It all goes back to the council, thier choice to allow this type of behavior.

No reprimands. Let it lay. You have to remember, even when a good man lies down with dogs he gets fleas. He's the Chief, he has bosses he answers to. And his bosses have been blacks and Liberals--people with no sense of right and wrong. Liberals call good evil, and evil good. And blacks vote 96% with them, so there you go. How can anybody enforce that kind of law without having the stink rub off on him too?
Now we have a new council, a new chance for good people to take back their town. And there's much damage to be undone. Just the same as we can hope when the Kenyan Communist and his party of degenerates is gone. Much damage to be undone.
Demonizing and reprimanding him now would only be counterproductive and downright unfair. Did you know a Marshville officer can just about more more money as a Walmart greeter? Anywhere would pay better than here. It's a wonder the Chief can keep men at all.

The question should be is giving gift cards for writing tickets legal. Is rewarding officers for the most arrest,DWIs,and driving violations legal? Some of the best people in the world break laws it doesn't mean they're in the right. All this nice guy crap doesn't work when it's you sitting in front the judge. It doesn't mean crap when your insurance agent informs you that your rate is going to double because your kid got a ticket that turned out that he was going 4miles below the posted speed limit before the NEW sign got put up. If it is legal than screw us civilians.

I must agree with civilian, if it legal and the chief rewarded him men to give tickets then it should tell the citizens he really doesnt care about them. If it was not legal, then the town manager should take action. Oh, I forgot she approved it to take place, so then the council needs to take the action against her and him. When you think about it, it is pretty sh!tty that our chief would even consider such a program against the citizens. The effects will linger for years for those unfortunate people that got ticketed. Sits in the hands of council members now.

I think that it is very unprofessional, unethical and disgraceful. He got his officers to accept a brief. There is no difference in what he did and some one on the street offering them money to arrest someone. I also believe that if you have folks working for you that you have to bribe to do a little work maybe you need to get some new people in there....... I would bet there are some other issues going on besides the gift cards!!!
