If we don't do something to direct people on 74 to what we have on "Main Street Square" it won't matter what we offer. Our town entrance is as welcoming as going to the landfll. The sign is colorless and the landscaping a joke. There is no life presence as you drive through. NOTHING TO BRING PEOPLE HERE BUT THE AUCTION AND TRACEYS. If you don't know the area you drive right by. Decorating Main Street does NOT get people to stop and spend money.

When I first read about Marshville seeking this designation I thought they have about as good a chance as a snowball in hell. I thought it was supposed to reward a town for making progress in promoting it's "uptown" area and revitalizing it. Not so. Marshville got it because of the Bo Weevil festival. There are other towns that have made real progress in improving their uptown images. Marshville hasn't but they do have the festival. Other towns have festivals and they didn't win the designation. Why? Well, not many applied. Marshville was lucky. That's all.
