I have recently moved here. I moved from a haunted house back in Roxboro NC. Have always been interested in the paranormal. Wanted to know if anyone knew of any hauntings here in marshville or the surrounding areas

Go up 205 to the bridge at Negro Head Creek, also called Salem Creek. Walk east about 1/4 of a mile and you will come to the place where Sadie's head was in the water. There are a lot of big trees there so it's deep shade almost like early night time. It's kind of shallow there. You can see where wagons use to cross the creek back in the old days. The longer you hang out there, the stranger it seems. Little noises become big noises. The hair on the back of your neck will stand up and you will want to leave. My hunting dogs won't go anywhere near the place. There are people who have claimed to have seen Sadie rise up from the creek. There are lots of people who say they have seen her eyes looking up from the bottom of the creek. It scared me so bad when I was a boy that I ran all the way home, over a mile and a half, and was so scared I couldn't speak. My daddy went down there with a gun thinking somebody was playing tricks. He come back and said there sure enough was a haint there and never went back.

I think this is the area he was referring to. If Earl could point out the exact spot he's speaking of I would appreciate it, I am interested in seeing it myself.

After double checking maps, negro head creek runs into Richardson about a mile from the spot I pointed out, so now I'm a little confused as to where the event of legend occurred, and if it's actually on Richardson. Any help Earl?

Found this post to be interesting. In checking with family, their relatives lived on Lucy Short Cut Rd and said that a black man was killed down below their house on this creek which was then given that name. Location: turn off 205 N onto Lucy Short Cut Rd, go to the first bridge/creek and that is the part of the creek where the incident happened a long time ago. Family I spoke with said they use to hear their grandparents and neighbors say this is where it happened. No exact spot can be remembered but just that the incident was at this location. Hope this helps someone. Will be interested in reading more posts.

Thanks for the info Nearby Resident. Based on this new information I've figured out I was looking at the wrong bridge on 205 before, and that Negro head creek branches off and crosses both 205 and Lucy shortcut not far from one another. Here's the updated map that shows the proper locations. Flores if you do end up checking it out please keep us updated.

There are two bridges on 205 between Marshville and New Salem. The first bridge is over Jacks Branch and the second is over Richardson Creek. Negro Head Creek aka.....Salem Creek doesn't have a bridge and it crosses 205 at the old Rendering Plant right past the Marshville Cemetery.

Checked out your map. Very good photo and the #2 bridge/creek is the exact location I was refered to. My post has nothing to do with a so called "haunting" or anything like that. It is simply trying to give others help in ascertaining as to where and/if a certain incident in history occured. Also, this area use to be considered in Anson Co. before boundries were changed. It is possible that the current names of the creeks where they cross Hwy 205 today were called by another name years ago.

Thanks, glad to have nailed down one of the locations. I went back and read some of Earls posts in the other thread going on about the creek. Turns out the first two maps show the place he was referring to, so spot #1 in my third map can be disregarded. He seems to know a lot of back story on it and even claims that's where an old still used to be so I'm inclined to believe his spot could be valid as well, the only thing that gives me doubts is that it's on Richardson and not salem/negro head.

Guess all people really have to go by is what was passed down from past generations. With different variations, no one may really know what happened if in fact it did happen. This does make interesting conversation and I look forward to seeing posts by others. And if you check out the maps where boundaries and names of creeks were many years ago, that may shed some light on the validity of a location.

My date, the lovely Marsha of Marshville and I stopped by El Viagra Saturday night for some Tamales, Burritos and Coronas. It was a hot night and the tepid beer did little to cool the air, let alone the flaming hot jalapeno and habanero peppers on our delicious food. This resulted in the consumption of many chilled bottles of Corona, Modello and Dos Equis. Soon, our inhibitions disappeared and we were speaking with the El Viagra Senoritas in our broken High School Spanish learned from a state approved textbook many years ago one of the local secondary schools. They found it uproariously funny because we had no idea what we had said.

As we left the establishment arm in arm the lovely Marsha gave me that little wink of hers that indicated that there would be further adventure later. We slowly ambled down the remarkably clean sidewalk toward the sound of the auction coming from Hall's Auction House.

Suddenly the Lovely Marsha grabbed my arm and said "Look" pointing at the Marshville High Speed Internet, Copy and Fax store. I turned and gazed at the darkened windows still covered with the graphics of the former business. I didn't see anything.

"Did you see it"? she squealed. "I know you did. You are just pretending you didn't. LOOK!, There it goes again!" she squealed.
