Well at least i am not the only one with LOW opinions of her. I have a child that makes straight A's, but does have a slight speech impairment. Therefore she has a few minor issues with reading. She does hace an IEP For her speech. I thought this IEP was to protect my childs best interest. Mrs Carter is intent on holding her back a grade....even tho shes a straight A student. Since i spoke up, shes being nastier. We are going to the schoolboard of course, but i just wanted to see if i am the only one having issues. Thanks for the info!!

Even though they hold her back, you can sign a paper to have her moved up. I wasn't aware of this until it happened to my children.

What will it take for her to give up her job? Will she be there next year or did she get transferred?

They can not just hold your child back..you have a say so and if you don't agree with it then they can't do it..it happened to my child too..and yes if I were you I would go to the school board about her being nasty about it cause she is there for the best interest of the child and with straight A's and just having a speech problem..she can help for that so long as she is in school..my child is in high school and still has an IEP and gets help but is in all regular classes..no one knows the difference..good luck!

Well, aren't you a fine outstanding citizen? When you haven't got a clue as to what is even going on. I hope and pray you do not have kids and never do. As its people like you that has poor innocent children in the loop without a chance in life. Shame on you. And I also hooe and pray that concerned parent dont find out who you are cause your ass will be had. Now you stutter on that for a while!!!

This world has so many opportunities that each and every child should be able to follow their dream. Teachers and school personnel play a big part in molding that child into the fine young adult they can become. Yes, their home life also plays a big part but the school system gets their brain going and shows them all of the opportunities that lies ahead. We have some great teachers. But all it takes is one adult in that school to bust that child's dream, to hurt their self esteem. When a parent knows that something going on at school will devastate a bright young child, then yes by all means, speak up.
When a concerned parent gets on here for advice or to see if anyone else may be having trouble trying to help her child and maybe more, and you get someone like 'teach' that shows such stupidity totally ruins this post. I dont understand why such a person would even think this way much less post it. I hope all ignores her post and will continue to help concerned parent with some good and logic support.

If you don't mind me asking how old is your child? If they are about kindergarten age it's quite common to hold kids back not because of any intellectual lacking birth some kids (especially with late birthdays) just aren't socially ready to move on. I don't know the principal but just wanted to give a new perspective.

My child is in the 2nd grade. As far as replying to ' teach'...i wont waste my time or energy to reply or even finish reading his posts. My child is a sweet kid. Shes never been in trouble at school, has excellent grades. She is in 4H , girlscouts and even cheerleads. She struggled with reading alot last year, but she has a great support system with parents and family that has worked with her to bring her average to an A in reading this year. She has worked very hard to bring up this average and i refuse to let some one ,or anyone really, to keep her from moving up when she has worked so hard. What concerns me most about the issue, was this principal called me at work, made the reception find me , which i thought perhaps my kids were sick an needed picked up from school or etc...and told me bluntly that she had made the decision to retain my daughter next year. I may not know much about protocol or etc, but this should have been something discussed in a private meeting. Her call interupted nurse flow at the clinic i work. Made me late for my post and was unnecessary. It seemed like the decision was hers only to make and was final. I will admit i had a few nasty things to say to her, and perhaps i lost my temper, but when a child has straight a's and have worked their butt off,,,,,i just dont understand where she was coming from. She refused to comment why exactly and when i asked for a meeting, she said it wasnt necessary since we had this teleconference?? I dont know what to think. But a meeting is scheduled with the board of education. I do not want another child or parent to go thru this in the future.

Who are you kidding?? Carter is a troll!!! Shes controlling and runs the school like a military base. The teachers complain the kids wont sit still but could you?? No talking at lunch!! No talking in bus line! No talking in the gym even if u wait 45 minutes for your ride home! Lets take away 10,more minutes of recess!! Look into your schools people!!! Why do you think kids are acting up and out?? Theres no time for them to be KIDS anymore! Hell, mine cant even play at home afterwards cause of the homework load, its impossible and the kids are frowing up way to fast because of it

Wait a minute....tell me if i am wrong but isn't there another semester left in the school year? Why were they so quick to make a decision in holding a child back already? Shouldnt teachers work with a child struggling NOW to see they reach their goals?? I see this decision made too quickly. I hope the mother confronts this issue head on.

Have you had your daughters hearing tested? Some speech impediments can stem from hearing problems or how they process the information after they hear it.

Mrs Carter is doing a great job. Shes getting so much done! She has already implemented accelerated math and is working on the reading. She's very dedicated, greeting the students outside every morning and sees them onto the buses. She doesn't put up with disrespectful children. She sends them home and I suspect these are the parents who are complaining.
Our principal last year was afraid of the kids, parents and the teachers. Mrs. Carter follows through when rules are broken. Our school is finally headed in the right direction under the leadership of Mrs Carter. I just hope she stays.

Ok...You just proved how stupid you are....First of all a I.E.P is a Individual Educational Plan....Which Means that this plan is to help this child succeed in a class room....This plan is made by a SAT team (School Assitance Team). This team is to consist of Special Education Teacher, Regular Teacher,Administrator which would be Ms. Carter....So you see Ms. Carter is the in this 100 %....What I can tell you is that it sounds like the school is in non compliance of this federal law. If they are found in non compliance then Federal Funding could be pulled, and if that happens less Teaching jobs.I'd suggest filing a complaint, that will usually get their attention.....You dont stop, dont worry whose toes you step on, dont worry whose feelings you hurt....You and you alone are the only one that can be a advocate for your child ! I have been there. There is not enough training for these teachers. Heck even the Administrators dont even know the laws. To the mom w/ the child with the speech problem "Good Luck", keep after them !

I have a child that goes to roosevelt and also has a speech problem. She was having some problems with her teacher giving her a hard time so when I called to talk to mrs carter she was busy and it took her 2 days to call me back she was very rude on the phone just didn't care what I had to say and acted like I was in the wrong for even calling her
