My biggest memory of growing up in Point Pleasant has to be the 22nd Street skating rink! My mother would drop me off and then come and pick me up at closing. I was one awesome little skater in grade school...i ALWAYS won the limbo competition (every weekend)!! I remember that every once in awhile a bat would get in (it was an old building) and they would have to clear the skate floor while they handled it. And I loved eating their hotdogs because they had steamed buns! I also remember that I loved to wear the same lucky outfit every weekend (mom was probably tempted to BURN it)and wear those glow necklaces or earrings when I went!
I used to love that place. Was there every Saturday night almost and I know what you mean about the lucky outfit. I had really long ponytails and always wore my lucky hairties. They were red plastic skates with glitter in them.

All the comments bring back so many memories! As a young girl I would shop at the "upscale" Style Center owned by Bertha Stevens, with my mom, while waiting on my dad who was getting a haircut in Carl Fruth's Barber Shop. The shop was below ground level and the steps leading down were so worn that my butt fit perfectly in the indentations made by countless footsteps. After graduating high school and spending 2 years at Marshall I returned and started working at Rardin's Shoe Center. The Rardin's were a great family and will always be thought of fondly. I was working there when the courthouse was blown up. Bill had a huge piece of the concrete engraved with the pertinent information as a keepsake. I finally graduated from MU, work as a special needs teacher in Cabell County. I still have family and friends who live in Point Pleasant, and remember it fondly.

We played on the back side of Ned Sam addittion. It was nothing but sand. We use to take the old scrap plywood and 2x4 leftovers and tunnel back into the dropoff. I can remember it caving in different time. An un named friend was buried one time and we thought we would get in serious trouble. We got him out and he never told and neither did we. We sure did a lot of crazy thngs back then. I remember myself and Bruce D. went to an old abandoned well near the Bill Potts place and it had holes all around it. Wonder we didn't go through. I guess that is why my first guardian angle is in a mental ward now and I am on at least my 2nd one if not the 3rd.

We also used to sleigh ride on Potts Hill. I can also remember Bill Potts knocking on our back door so many times. Seems I had a thing about his baby moon hubcaps on his old Ford. Baby Moon Hubcaps that had in blue FORD and I could put a rock right in the middle of Ford. My dad had a lot of those hanging on the garage wall. Donna Potts used to bring her pony over on Sunday and let us ride.

<quoted text>No but wish I had a nickel for story I've heard of others experience with both he and "Doc Gettles"... I do remember when I was very young seeing Dr. Eshenaur walking the halls of PVH with a cigar in his mouth... Wonder how that would go over today??? This was of course in the original PVH before all the additions were added. I as a very young boy remember my very ill Grandmother at PVH needing blood... Her Dr then was Doc Grubb and he left the room and later reentering the room rolling his sleeve down after giving his own blood for her... I remember all the stories of his drinking but his own brand of compassion is what I remember most...
Best Doc around .. You can't get a caring Doc now none have compassion . Just in a hurry to got you in and out

I remember when she got killed in a curve where the old Pantasote (sp. x ) and Eugene Williams was driving his little sporty car after a ballgame? My hubby went to her funeral. Later...Eugene who calls himself Kenny now had a sister named Trisha who was beaten to death. Sorry to bring up sad stuff...It was a sad time. I remember when Jenny Littlepage got killed in a car accident too with a girl that went by BJ. Does anyone remember Sherlene Fox who died from heart surgery in 68....I think. Also John Michael Mayes in 67. All from Pt Pleasant High. I miss them.
Eugenes sister was named Sandy and mayes died in car crash, knew them well!

BJ''s last name was Mercandante. It was a sad day when she and Jennifer died in a senseless car accident.

I remember when Randy Burnham (?) was crushed by a car falling on him. There were more students that passed away before my graduating year from PPHS in 1970 then I care to remember.

A buddy of mine told me about this forum a few months ago, I have really enjoyed it. I went to Central school and made the switch to the "old junior high" in the 6th grade. My earliest years of living here was growing up in King Town. My great uncle was nicknamed Handsome that worked at the Anchor in the pool hall. My brother and I would walk across the old bridge coming out of King Town and climb the old concrete steps on the floodwall to Goosetown and then downtown. My great uncle would take me to to get something to eat and drink in one of the many restaurants mentioned here on this forum. I later moved to Neal Road right on the corner of Krodel Park when there were only a few swings and the original building and maybe a couple small provillians. I watch Tiny's restaurant burn, I remenber hearing the Silver Bridge collapse from our home by Krodel. I later lived on Eight Mile creek road, and then moved to fifth street. I worked at the KFC while in high school. My parents still live there. I went off to college in 1975 and ended up in the eastern panhandle where I live today. I was home for a visit when the jail was blown up.

I loved growing up in Point Pleasant and as corny as it sounds, it was just like growing up in Mayberry. I can remember sitting at the courthouse benches with my great uncle on Sunday's, getting takeout at Charlie Browns that evening. I keep in touch with a couple guys that I grew up with. This forum has really brought back a lot of great memories.

I would love to know if someone saved the sign that hung outside the Anchor Lounge. If I remember correctly, it had a neon monkey that pointed to the front door. I have a Lewis Drug Company medicine bottle that says "Only the Best, Point Pleasant, WV". As my used name states, I collect gas & oil products, I would really like to get a gas pump that was one used in town. Another guy I know in Ravenswood found a local pump in Leon, but I cannot get him to sell it. I dated a girl from Leon in high school.

I want to go thru this whole thread and I will post more later. I wish I had been part of this in the beginning.
