The McDermitts sound like trash to me. I'm so glad the young man escaped alive. These people need to be put away forever!

I am not sure that I know theae two. I knew a Billy Mcdermitt but that pic doesnt look like him. Of course its been years since I have seen him. Does anybody know if that guy that he beat down actually broke into their home?? If he did, then all I can say to all of the thieves out there, better watch out, it appears the citizens are getting tired of people breaking in and taking their valuables. They are taking it in their own hands to do something about it!! Instead of allowing a slap on the wrist by the law enforcement, they are getting beat down.

I think its awful he hung him from a tree with his own belt & scalped him with a knife I couldn't even imagine what Dave was thinking. It seems like to me it was attempt to murder. And no I heard Dave didn't even break in & Billy's daughter told Billy that it was Dave. And 2 days later he went after him not the next day but 2 days. A little crazy in my book

He didnt scalp him. He cut his hair. The guy may have thought he was going to scalp him. He was probably shitting his pants. If he truly broke into Billys house, he deserved to be scared. And waiting 2 days (if there is truth to this) doesnt surprise me. Have you ever been broken into and person(s) went through all of your belongings??? You never know if they are going to try it again. You feel very violated. You are scared in your own home. And the more your family shows fear, it will work up to taking it in your own hands. Especially if that person is running around without a worry in the world and still on the streets. He may have went a little overboard but one thing for sure, I bet no one else tries to break in that house!!

They will let them pleabargain down to lesser charge. Billy shouldnt have 'kidnapped' him. But in his insane mind at the time, he probably wanted to take the boy back to the actual crime scene!! Whoever breaks into your house unless actually caught in the act, walks. Proven fact.

After rereading this story in the register, I find it odd that after Billy alledgely hit Dave at the red light, Dave knowing that Billy was still following him, went to Harmon Park. Hmmm!! Why????

Did he know for sure who it was who broke into his house? Had he reported it to police? Had there been other break ins in his neighborhood? All valid questions. Also, just was thinking, if he pleads insanity, won't the fact that he waited & went after him later go against him & be called premeditated? Just wondering?

How on Earth, does it really matter if he know for sure or not? Say he did, Is it ok to force you from your car, handcuff you, and take you out in the country and beat you ? Two wrongs, don't make it right.

If this guy actually broke into Billy's house then I say he got what he deserved! Forget a prison sentence and a waste of the taxpayer's money!

If not ... Billy's going to the state pen for a longtime!

A man was breaking in to someone's home ( I can only assume to steal items to sell for drugs), and he is hunted down by the homeowner and "punished". Uh, I don't see the wrong here. Drugs and crime are becoming rampant in Mason County and if a man is defending his home and family in an effort to make a statement to the drug users / drug pushers (a.k.a. Trash), then I say God bless him.

If more people would make a definitive statement the way Bill McDermitt did, I would venture to say that the "mason county trash" would think twice before trying to break in to someones home.

This Greene kid better thank God he didn't leave in a bodybag. You can't blame a man for protecting his property and family.
