Roger King was a television distribution CEO. He died of complications from a stroke. You can read about him on TheHollywoodReporter.com .

Roger King, who died in Dec. 2007, was a producer with CBS and King World Productions who helped launch the television careers of Dr. Phil, Oprah, and Alex Trebek, among others.

Because the 'Dr. Phil' show made the personal decision to remember Mr. King by showing his name at the end of the show. The 'Opera' show doesn't show it. Oprah is a little too good for the rest of us, don'tcha know??:-)

I think it was personal choice to remember him in the manner he (Dr. Phil) chose! I don't think Oprah is "Too Good For Us". She helped and continues to help MANY people you & I don't even know about!!!! She's building a school in Africa so poor, POOR children don't have to walk 20 miles all hours of the night just to get an education! Something Americans don't understand in the land of plenty! If you watch her show Denise you will see what and how much she gives away, and helps others! God Bless Dr. Phil AND Oprah!!!!

Opray gives nothing away. If you watch and listen closely you will hear all who donate in her name. They use her and she uses them. Did you ever think why children of Africa would need Niki sneakers when they could of brought thosands more of another brand, with out the name Niki on them. Almost all the things Opray gives aweay are donated. Listen when she thanks them at the end of the show.

How much longer does Dr. Phil plan to memorialize Roger King at the end of his shows? I think it was a very nice tribute, but now it's kind of getting a little old. I rarely watch his show anyway ... liked Dr. Keith Ablow MUCH better ... but I did notice it.

Yesterday on Dr. Phil, at then end of the show it said, "In loving memory of Roger King" so I was just curious who Roger King was. That's cool.
Cheryl-With all respect, don't you think it's a hard thing to get over?

Sorry Cheryl but Dr Keith was justa rip off of Dr Phil anyway!(Bald Dr doing talk show). His show was just voyeuristic of people's dirty laundry whereas Dr Phil has integrity and uses his skills to open peoples eyes, make them face the truth, and take action to actually improve their lives!!! No comparison!!!

i only looked at this because i too was wondering who rodger king was. thanks for clearing that up. britteney. I don't get your comment on oprah, i wouldn't care if she only bathes in goats milk and sits on a throne, she is changing perceptions globally, more than any politician. she does more than create charities, she brings awareness of other lives, other counries, cultures. asks hard questions we all want answers to. she works her backside off for humanity. She is your true national treasure. i don't know if it was rodger kings vision but he's cultivated a very proactive bunch of people who are changing our level of conciousness.

I think the tribute to ROGER KING at the end of Dr Phil's show is touching an appropriate -- up to a reasonable time. Come on Dr Phil, he's not a household name we all revere. It's not as if he brought lasting peace to the world, or lowered the price of $4,00 per gallon gasoline. It would be more fitting if you grieved his passing more privately in your heart.

First saw Dr. Phil on the Oprah show. Heard she helped to get him his own show. So Roger King was instrumental in the Oprah Show, the Dr. Phil Show, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. I say: Thank You Roger King and may you rest in peace.

I am a great fan of Dr. Phil and Oprah!! I think they do great things and touch many different groups of poeple. I think that the fact that he remembers someone that was important to him only goes to show what a humanistic and genuine person he really is.

Thank you Dr. Phil, Robin and Ophray!!!

A loyal fan

I logged onto this [now older] post to answer the "who was Roger King" question for myself...

It amazes me how, when someone answered the Roger King question, that so many small-minded and uneducated people had to pick on Dr. Phil for remembering the man, pick on Oprah for what she does (or is perceived to do)for people, pick on this, pick on that! This isn't a chicken Bar-B-Q!

Pick-pick-pick-pick!

Funny, but I don't see any of YOUR names on this list of influential people who - for whatever reason - have made this world a better place!

You "armchair critics" need to get off your over-stuffed duffs and try to do something - no matter how small - to improve life as we know it, rather than sit back and criticize others who [for better of for worse] at least TRY.

You are no part of the solution... YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM... and I'm addressing this to YOU Denise, Juanita , Cheryl, Blanco and Hal... all who "shoot from the lip" without having their brain engaged first!

Remember, this country still offers a FREEDOM OF CHOICE... if you don't like what you see on TV, turn the damned thing off and go get a life... and DO SOME GOOD with it!

(Although I suspect that your only contributable talent to this planet is to criticize others - and no doubt what I have to say will evoke more mindless vitriole from your poisoned personalities...)

You've got to be kidding. Oprah is a total phony--has shows on U.S. poverty, abuse, animal rights, etc., but when it comes to her billions, she only contributes to black/African causes. Even those giveaway shows are promotional gifts from the manufacturers.
She is a tight-wad, racist (anti-white), greedy, and egotistical. Only self-loathing whites like her!

the reason i think the tribute to Roger King was not that bright.. is because as a viewer I though for example that the story of the show was about 2 bank robbers and when I saw 'in loving memory' I thought someone involved in the story of the show had died since the taping of it? I mean out of nowhere with no explanation of who Roger King is may be all fine with Dr. Phil because he knows the man and was a friend.. but come on how about us the viewers who are left clueless? Not smart people, not smart. I mean for gods sakes anyone here in this forum was left dumbfounded just like me!
