I was shocked to learn of the deaths of Robert Butler and his wife. Bob was a scholar and had principles. As a graduate student working on his Ph. D. at the U. of Washington one of his professors demanded that he repudiate the work of his mentor. He refused and got dropped from that program.
His research focused on the Dalles on the Columbia River. His work on the "Old Cordilleran Culture" yet stands as major contribution.
He needed a graduate degree to keep his position at ISU. He asked for me to chair his committee. His work was outstanding and his MA thesis focused on Idaho Archeology. I contacted the Idaho State Department of Education to republish his work, which they did. As I recall it was in the mid 1960s and all high schools in the state got copies of a guide to Idaho archeology.
My condolences to all.

Our newsteam has downloaded and copied this article from APNews on the Topix blog so the public can be aware of what to expect in the near furure. To let you know that we got calls of threats that our America's Most Wanted news station will be blown up between this week and January of next year but police are trying to trace the call at this point:
Woodbridge, Virginia (APNews)-- Shots were fired Tuesday at a Coast Guard recruiting station in a Woodbridge, Virginia, strip mall, police said. No one was injured in the shooting, which was discovered this morning. It was unclear whether it was linked to a string of overnight shootings at military buildings in the Washington area in recent weeks but several fires were set in some storage units of some warehouses and bombs planted in some storage units on the other side of the building according to recent reports. "We got the call a little after 7 o'clock this morning about some arsons and shootings in the area," said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, spokeswoman for Prince William County police. "Employees of the Coast Guard recruiting station called to tell us there was some damage to the glass, and police arrived and determined it was probably done by a bullet and that they got calls of some people hanging around the areas late at night looking for trouble."
She said the shooting left a mark on the glass. "It did not penetrate the glass, more like a graze," she said.
Video from the scene showed officers in the parking lot of the recruiting center indicated that two people were starting a fire in one place and two people placing a bomb in another in the same area but near a gasline and an electric utility.
Asked whether the shooting is related to other overnight shootings at the Pentagon, a vacant Marine Corps recruiting station in Chantilly, Virginia, and the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Chinn said, "I would say it's relatively similar. We won't know until we get ballistics but we got calls of some people trying to blow up gaslines and some electric power plants recently."
Six shots were fired at the Pentagon early on October 19, authorities have said. The Marine museum shooting took place early on October 17, and 10 bullets were fired. Shots were fired at the Marine Corps recruiting station early on October 25, according to the FBI. No one was injured in any of the shootings but there is word that several criminals are planning to create mass murder and mayhem in every major city throughout the country to so called "end the world" and etc..
Chinn would not say how many bullets were found at the scene Tuesday. The Coast Guard referred questions to the FBI, saying it is taking the lead in the investigation. The FBI said it has sent personnel to the recruiting center.

I learned recently of this murder suicide committed by B Robert Butler in 2008. I can truly say that he was one of the lowest forms of life I encountered during the two years I taught at Boise State (1971-1973)and I was not surprised to learn of his ignominious demise. For more on this I suggest you read my book The Romantic Years (volume two in the series Idaho Smith's Search for the Foundation) available at the BSU library(and other libraries you can find at www.worldcat.org ) or in ebook form at Kindle Books www.amazon.com .
