Star Herald is clueless.
Dalton Sullivan is clueless. His Jan 10 ambulance franchise article states that during the public meeting, the "city council heard supporting comments fom the 50 or so people in attendance."
Nothing could be further from the truth. Poor Dalton is completely wrong. He has no idea what happened during the public meeting, because he came waltzing in AFTER the meeting concluded. Surely he was fed this incorrect information by council cronies eager to dupe the public into thinking all comments were considered. The truth is that NOT A SINGLE PERSON WAS ALLOWED TO SPEAK AT THE PUBLIC MEETING OTHER THAN THE TWO EMS OWNERS. Period
Any comments were required to be written, and submitted personally. Memos were taken up until the time of the meeting, giving council members no time to read or consider. Neither were the memos read or discussed at all during the meeting.
So much for truth in reporting and transparency in government. The council scoffed at the public contributed memos, all the while hiding behind the appearance of encouraging public discussion.

sounds like a weak effort on the mayor's part to conduct a public hearing and not have the public speak. total FAIL by mr mayor.

makes one wonder if that was a LEGAL "hearing", and was what the municipal league recommends or the law may require.

also have to wonder why this non-hearing was so different from the last one. did hearing expressed opinions from the public the first time damage their ears, or their brains?

not allowing comments just further proves "OUR" self annointed, pompous, non-listening council and mayor do not care about the public, or their vote.

the paper owner and editor should demand and publish a retraction from dalton for their published "fictious article".
they should all express regret, sorrow, and admit incompetence.

The paper should publish a retraction of their fictitious reporting AND ask the mayor why people were not allowed to comment and if he thought it was a legal hearing.

re the non-hearing:
the mayor and council probably didn't want to sit thru another 1 hr thorough asss reaming from the public like the last time. it must of hurt their pompous asses and ears.

solution - need to get 5 to 10 folks on the agenda for each of the next 6 meetings and express their opinion on the bogus hearing, the franchise, erc, tabled public board ordinance, and ask for info and facts, etc, etc. just pester the heck out of em and let em know we don't like what they did after our vote.
could also organize an info harassment campaign - get a couple hundred folks to call or go by city hall and ask for copies of the franchise, any emails or council info that was disributed internally, ordinances, erc minutes, franchise proposals made, erc reports made to monitor them, pro meds stats, etc. etc. etc.= wear em out.

You are correct about the ass reaming... But the cards are not in favor of the public. There is no law that says the mayor or council has to allow citizens to speak at council meetings...and that's how they escaped a second ass reaming this time.

have seen no correction, retraction, or apology in the paper this week regarding "city council heard supporting comments fom the 50 or so people in attendance."

will assume by their silence that reporting and publishing outright lies in their own articles is fine and ok with them.

sad time for our town when we can no longer trust and expect honest factual reporting from our formerly esteemed member of the arkansas press association.

you referring to the folks at the paper or to tea party folks?

if you are referring to the local paper folks as "all catholic democrats", you get an F on YOUR homework, and you are as weak and wrong as the paper was.

the paper reports the way they want a story to be
if it takes a lie to make a square peg fit a circle hole they will.
