What happened to the original plan? With the cost overuns will the new nursing home make money or will they come begging to the county and hoping for a bailout with a special tax to keep them from being foreclosed on ?
Only the future will tell !
But just why is there a cost over run ?
Cost overrun? Are you not familiar with the way construction works? The only way things get done on time is if there is a bonus tied into it.

It's simple economics that the loan payments will be higher than the net income of the nursing homes prior to making those payments.
Medicaid is also LOWERING the payments on those indigent patients that the County houses .
This has to be the dumbest idea that the nursing home board ever came up with.
The Original nursing home only made $56,000 from it's operations, because it is so poorly run.
All of them either never owned a business or are in league with the Batesville bank since it is very obvious that there isn't anyway that this thing is going to work.
After the dust clears and the nursing home management gets fired , the bank will take over Both homes .
Just wait for the Board members to come running to the county or the State seeking funds to prevent the foreclosure.

It's everyone's business because that "private business " pays no county property taxes , no State taxes , no federal income taxes!
You are a genuine moron, and it is a communist idea to tax people and not give them the right to vote.
Any tax payer in this county is subsiding that nursing home.
Also Moron , the nursing home board is the ones that decided to put all those jobs in jeopardy by building the new home without even having enough common sense to poor piss out of a boot.
So tell us just how anyone here is telling anyone else what size of a house they can build ?

does the home board really have $5+ million tucked away as rumored?
if so, how did they get that money?
not paing rent to the county for their current building for how many years?
who owns the building? if the county, why aren't we collecting rent?

It's all about growth. As a community, we can grow and live, or we can stagnate and die. Those who want a bright future will promote and try to help with growth, while the naysayers do their best to convince all that we are doomed. You will know them by their works. Make your choice now

<quoted text> We need to make positive reasonable good choices. For our community to try and borrow tax & spend our way to prosperity is like a person to stand in a bucket and lift themselves up by the handle.
One could just as reasonably say that if no capital was obtainable through borrowing, there would be many fewer business startups, If no taxes were paid, our infrastructure and military defense would crumble. If we refused to spend, commerce and capitalism would cease.
Using the populist buzzwords "tax & spend" to stir emotion, while at the same time evoking "reasonable choices" seems as if you are talking out of both sides of your mouth. Would you not agree?

Hello there DOOFUSS
So you failed economics and never ever ran a business.
The concerns here are that the cost over runs and additional debt will be more than what the nursing homes income is and it's ability to service that debt.
It's about sound business practices , no one is against progress what they are opposed to is the greater possibility of the nursing home becoming a financial failure.

When the Board went to the Quorum court the nursing home was going to cost 13 million and have something like 230 beds plus some extra services so that it would then generate enough income to pay for the monthly bank payments.
If the amount of money to be spent has increased then the income for the 230 beds will not cover the mortgage payments.
Some things must have changed since then , I hope that if the additional amount of money is being borrowed then there is going to be additional income for the home in the form of other services or additional beds.
Can we conclude anything from what topix posters tell us ?
1. Is there really going to be a total cost of 19 million?
2. if so where does that extra money come from,is it another bank loan?
3. if there is more money being borrowed ,just how will the nursing home be able to service the debt ?
4.I do not think that the nursing home board of directors would intentionally place the nursing homes in jeopardy by borrowing debt than what could be paid.

You all need to stop fighting. They have already done the ground work and are about ready to start construction. You are all beating a dead horse. By the way, who would want to buy an old nursing home? What would they do with it?

if this is true...why did they ask for 6 million more a couple months ago? and now they can get it done for 13.5???? guess the bids weren't as high as they said? LOL

I started a business in the mid 70's, it remains successful to this day. I find it significant that you begin your reply with insults and misunderstandings. That was my very point..., why would you use rhetoric to appeal to base emotions? I can answer that, it is because you have no credible response to the reasonableness of my post.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Scorpio

It's a frustrating and rather disappointing day because you have to cope with delays and setbacks to your plans. A travel arrangement may have to be postponed or there could be a hitch about something connected with education. You're also feeling subdued and tired, and you're longing to spend some time on your own although this may not be possible. Don't worry, this difficult mood will soon blow over.
