Bids for water park came in to high so it's back to the drawing board. Do the people not realize what the upkeep on this thing is going to cost. Wonder what our 2 Mayoral candidates position on this is? If it was voted on today with all the facts finally sinking in it would fail big time.

It doesn't have to be built, they can put in a new swimming pool a lot cheaper.

I think we should invest more in the city producing employment rather than some entertainment. Make the city and its people financially solid first and then build from there.

Yes the city needs to get their heads together and realize the people need jobs. That is most important to the people. The swimming pool is not something the people of Pocahontas, AR or Randolph county needs to survive. The city and county need industry and growth to start a thriving city. A new swimming pool/water park is not going to help the community for very few people. I don't see where it will help anything. It is just a luxury Pocahontas, AR cannot afford.

Where are these jobs? Do they pay more then welfare? Will they provide a living for a family?

don't worry, soon there will be hundreds of people immigrating to Pocahontas, and there will be no shortage of those who want to work. They will pay low wage taxes, and help support our welfare state.

Its strange how the folks wanting a 1/2 cent tax for the HORSEpital did not have to get registered voters to sign just had to get 225 people in Poky and its a go. It should be that easy to get the booze sales on the ballot. Its amazing how easy things get put on the ballot when certain groups want it and how hard it is for others. From the salaries some of the people there draw you would think they are in New York instead of Podunk Arkansas where a lot of people would rather die than go to that HORSEpital. Plus if you are in such bad shape you need to go to the hospital every day maybe you should be in a nursing home.

Finding someone in Poky that WILL work and CAN pass a drug test is very tough, very tough. A friend of mine who hires quite a few people said 2 thirds missed a day of work the first week. Some of his contracts require a background check and that knocks out over half of those he hires. A lot of people are not working out of choice.
This friend of mine told me some of the reasons his workers gave him for missing work.
I got a tattoo over the weekend and my arm is too sore.
My dog carried off my boots.
I woke up and thought it was Sunday instead of Monday.
I had to mow my yard.

There are a lot of felons here who need jobs and will actually show up every day and work.

i am a small business owner who will not hire another person around here. not only are they not qualified to work without supervision, good luck getting them to show up on time. i would pay well over welfare but that is the easy road many take around here. i have tried to hire several people and in the end it costs me money and possibly customers. one even smashed out my windshield in a drunken rage after i loaned him my car because he was so tweaked out he wouldnt fix his own vehicle. done being the nice guy and the other small business owners i associate with are in the exact same boat. best of luck to the ones who do want to work. your beef is with your peers.

Magee co. couldn't find people that would work, they had about 100% turnover rate or more.
Waterloo Ind. couldn't find anybody that wouldn't work, they had almost no turnover. Their were people all over Randolph and Lawrence county trying to get a job there. I wonder what the difference was?

I worked at Waterloo for about 24 Years. when I firststarted.not much turnover. last 15 years they went as fast as they came. Young people today (most of them) don't want to work. all they want are handouts and wheres the party?

The turnover you saw was not Waterloo employees. they were A.I.D.(temporary) employees

In all the years I was there at Waterloo, if the young folks wanted a job they woulda stick with A.I.D. and there would never had been a job opening there. Even back then the temps at Waterloo was making more money per hour than they will be paying at Peco. The would hire a few in at Waterloo, they would be working about a week and then the was gone. You could ask "what happened to Larry, Moe, and Curly?" they didn't pass the drug test. Id say that happened about 30% of temps. Ill bet its higher rate now. Now who is really wanting a job, knows they have to take a drug test, and go ahead and apply? Waterloo hired enough people that everybody within driving distance had a job there that wanted to work. Peco wont find enough people here willing to work all that hard. So they will import them. If they ire in just a few from south of the border, word will be sent down thre and they will come. Noone will stop it. If Peco hires them, and they wll, they will come.

Those Spanish speaking workers will flood Pocahontas because work at a chicken processing plant is hard work. Most slaughter plants have large numbers of employees who were not born in the USA.
Just look at what has happened in Batesville, the city had almost no Hispanics 10 years ago to now there is over 25%of the population, because of that chicken plant.
You can expect the same thing to happen here and ,realize that it is your Tax dollars at work being used by your elected Candidates who will bring about the change.
The school district will have to hire some teachers who are fluent in Spanish for the influx of children who will be accompanying their parents to Pocahontas.
