Local pool is a piece of crap. I think we should build a new pool complex with an indoor lap pool that is usable year round. Don't care about a track or amphitheater personally. I did go to the meeting , where were all you no votes? I know plenty of people who are taking their kids to poplar bluff and Paragould to their water parks. What's wrong with Pocahontas having something decent for a change. I don't mind paying taxes for worthwhile projects. It's the deadbeats and welfare rats that need to have the checks cut off. That's a waste of my taxes. Parks are a good thing.

apples to oranges. poplar bluff's is private owned, paragould is 4 times our size = bigger tax base and more usage.

yep, lets build some multi-million dollar pools so 25-50 folks can use it all winter. how high should we make the slides in that other pool for the 50 kids to use all winter, need 5 or 10 different kinds to keep them from getting bored. heard that surfer dudes want 2 to 3 foot waves in their pool.

why not just go for a 20 cent tax. it's only a couple of little ole dimes more. entertain lots of folks, make EVERYONE happy! build it and they will come, all year long. i know a couple hundred guys that would like and use a racetrack and 4 wheeler park. million or 2 ought to cover it. can you say indoor rodeo! zoos and aquariums are nice for kids, make ours free to draw folks here. paddle boats and fishin would be fun in the summer if we had an 80 acre stocked lake. how about a concert and dance hall that seats a thousand or 2. country and bluegrass on fridays. zz top and skynard as house bands. ziplines everywhere, steamboat rides on the river, paintball city, firing range with with clay pigeon course. 3 18 hole putt putt complex. go carts! build it and they will come, all year long. IT'S ALL GOOD!

yep, he forgot it and a hockey league.
and indoor shuffleboard and horseshoe pits,
and ski/sled slopes with lifts,
all so we can enjoy ourselves and stay in shape without having to swim in heated chlorine pee water.

skate park lawsuits wrote:

Oh yea put a skate park ther and wait for some enterprising parent to sue the city when their kiddy gets injured .
Send them out to the river where if they are lucky they might get a sun tan ,catch a fish or learn about nature.
we've had a skate park here. dont think anyone ever sued the city. as far as that goes, someone could get hurt ANYWHERE. the park, community center, pool. we gonna shut all that down so the city dont get sued too?

yes there has been several times where there has been pretty close to that amount. Maybe not during the day but at pool parties they cut it close. More lanes mean less heats so the meet is over quicker.
No they can not just "simply" lay more putty or whatever to fill the cracks because that putty becomes very slippery when wet, hence more chance for someone to fall and hurt themselves and with the people in Pocahontas they would sue the city for not keeping the pool up to FDA standards. And weather they decide to build a new pool or not the pool we have no will be shut down due to the fact that they don't mead certain criteria. So yes we need a new pool.
Simple answers to this are
so you don't have to have a pool party for more than the max that the pool will hold , a few pool parties doesn't justify spending millions of dollars and neither does having extra lanes so that a privileged few can get the race competition over sooner.
They can repair the pool and there won't be any slippery surfaces , so no one will be hurt and no one will be able to SUE the city!

Also the health department didn't close the pool ,call the director and ask her.

thought there was going to be more PUBLIC MEETINGS on this? hope they are not having any PRIVATE meetings? anyone one know? waiting to see what the cost will be for the indoor pool? doing the math that they were asked to give the citzens on repairs vs 6.5 million complex?
