Please be aware that we already have a half cent sales tax that goes into effect July 1 if we vote the Water Park tax in your new tax will be 9.25% on the dollar. Oh but if we get rid if hamburger tax only effect eating places and I think hotels. Not when you buy supplies, medicine, phone bills, ele. bills,on and on and on. Folks I would love to see us have something like this but simple math just does not add up. Farmers our main industry are already in trouble, local business struggling. I heard on the radio Popular Bluff has $7.99 admission to enter their park dropped price to build volume cause people just do not go cost to much. I ask the manager how many a day they are getting around sometimes 100 people. Do the math that will not even pay for it. This should have been a county vote. 1 out of every 5 kids in Pocahontas go without food everyday, elderly go without meds everyday and can't go somewhere else to shop. We need to focus on JOBS. Please get out and vote NO to the Progress they are trying to sneak in before July 1st tax goes into effect. Might as well throw a dime in the river every time you spend a dollar. PLEASE CITY RESIDENTS IF YOU DO NOT GO VOTE NO THIS WILL PASS AND COST OF LIVING WILL EXPLODE. THE PEOPLE THAT WANT THIS ARE FOOLING YOU AND PUTTING OUT SIGNS VOTE FOR PROGRESS. THE ONLY PROGRESS THAT WILL COME OF THIS IS MORE KIDS GOING HUNGRY AND MORE ELDERLY DOING WITHOUT. VOTE FOR THAT NOT.

Pocahontas is a sick town. It needs industry but with all our cheap crap coming out of China, it can't happen. Dealing with city government is impossible. They are all about who they know and stuborn lies. We had to move. I remember when it was healthy.

We can't even keep a hospital open. Guess the people that just got laid off from there can work at the water park. Already getting July state wide sales tax hit get out and vote NO. Seen on facebook where some people whom work for the city asking for this to pass. Spread the word to folks we will pay for this one. Someone hit he smart button. Jobs, hospital, farmers, and even city and county workers. They pay taxes on things they purchase so when or if this passes you will see benefits and pay reduced. Or does the city plan on gong out of town to buy things. Our senior citizens,\and children deserve better like food and medicine. Get out and vote NO if you do not the people who want this will go vote and you will be paying. NO MORE TAXES.

Pocahontas hasn't cared about the county citizens for years when we had ORC,Bigger -Reno St.Pauls the paper reported very little on their schools it was always Pocahontas now Maynard does get more reporting only to take up space.I can't believe the amount of county support this has. has everyone forgot about how the ambulance service went down? They want to take your money that's all be an informed voter citizens of Pocahontas. there never has been a study on this and one was asked for over a year ago. better to VOTE NO this time and make them do a study then to VOTE YES and have regrets.

Just watched the news and Jtown even can not feed their kids. And 200 people have already voted and it is most likely for the tax. Please use your vote and beat this we will run off business. Why don't we see the sales tax Law firm collects and the radio station collects. None. VOTE NO WE READY ARE GETTING HALF CENT JULY 1. Spread the word.

Pocahontas can't keep thier roads in decent condition, water and sewer lines are horrible in town, people everywhere are being laid off, businesses can't survive in Pocahontas, we can't seem to support a hospital, empty buildings all over town, the parks in town are unkept and embarrassing, even the old tennis courts have been long forgotten. I'd be all for the new water park if all these problems were fixed. Why can't we take care of the things Pocahontas already has before adding something new. Show some love and care to the existing parks which have become eye sores and unusable. New equipment at the parks would be wonderful and usable through most of the year (not only summer). Gosh, we could even put in a little splash pad for all the kids and rip out the old pools and rebuild them for way less than the water park would cost. I agree there is nothing for kids to do in Pocahontas. But, I'm not convinced a huge water park is the answer. Let's fix and repair existing problems!! This town could be great once again!! Then we could look at a water park.

Please city voters vote NO. It will effect everything Gas, heating fuel, phone bill, electric bills, cost of everything you buy already .50 on the dollar July 1st. We can't take any more. Get out and vote. Is it legal for city employees to promote this in their yards, on FB, making calls. I invite you to go with me to the store on a fixed income and get my meds n groc. and cleaning supplies, fill up my car 12 years old. $15 left for emergency. Had my daughter post this for me I need to be able to survive here can't go out of town to get things. But the way things are looking this is what you want. cause I can save enough money to drive to Walnut Ridge and the score is even again. I do have grand kids but this town has forced my kids to have to move for jobs and it would be nice to have a place to take them but I can't afford to. So once again please go vote no for the sake of the elderly in town and the kids that do not even get meals some days. Spend it on getting jobs and our hospital. I have to rely on them. It will be on your conscious if this passes with your vote that we have better ways to spend the money. Feed the hungry, health care for our families.

Money comes from the tax base and this area has been losing our tax base for years. Our local tax has went from 3.25 a few years ago to near 10 percent now and I have seen a decline in services. All small towns are trying to have big city police departments with SWAT and everything that goes with it, thats fine if we can afford it. Our area lives off retired people, check drawers, and seasonal farm workers. Our factories are gone forever so is our tax base. They have raised taxes on our property and real estate like we are Dallas Tx and yet we are just a small country town. Our whole government is broke and we are a debtor nation. Someone said we should get what we can afford, well that would be a quick dip in Black River.

Some of the hamburger tax was supposed to be used improve the roads and sidewalks. I think they had to use it all to bail the hospital out. Wait until the new nursing home is built. I see more bail outs.

"a quick dip in Black River"

many folks would appreciate and enjoy that!

we locals WANT, NEED, WOULD USE, AND APPRECIATE a FREE, decent, easy place to visit to wet our feet on the riverfront. so would all the out of town visitors.

down behind the century wall would work when the river is down. pretty and close place. some nice areas with little current.

maybe cut a sloped pathway and add a few loads of sand occasionally as needed on the rocks and bank to play, build sand castles, make it a little easier on the toddlers and old folks feet.

sand would be cheap enough to get and the city does own some trucks and backhoe.

probably just a sad wet dream tho.
too simple, and the city is probably too broke. common sense, and real, valid, and cheap wants and needs wouldn't be recognized by this council.

The nursing home is the county, not the city. And you are wrong about the hamburger tax. It goes to the community center and sports complex. This is also the money that a couple years ago Linda Collins Smith and some others tried to take away from our kids and wanted spent on advertising to bring people to her hotel! We parents haven't forgotten about that! The only taxes she is against are those that don't specifically benefit her!!

Money has always been blown in Poky, take the theater what a waste, only a few use it and very few attend, while the rest pay. It has always been the same pattern, some GOP gets land for free to build the next "superplex" that will bring in huge money for Poky. As always the GOP runs off with the profit.
Examples: The big blue Darling building on 67S.
The big trucking company deal that was going to employ 250, the same land that was bought back after the city gave it away and after buying it back gave it to the big "peanut" scam! Want to change Poky? Catch the next three hitchikers going through and give them the job of running this town and bringing in jobs, I would bet money they couldn't do worse that what we have now.
Want to bring tax money to Poky, make it wet, we could pay for all this crap the select few want in a short time. Oh I forgot no one in Poky drinks. However the two booze stores on the state line rake in about 650,000. dollars of Randolph county money each month.
