Well topix removed 5 posts from the last discussion and blocks further entries from showing up . So here is a new discussion.
Randolph county will hold a meeting on July 8th at 7 PM at the court house , county judge and quorum court 107 west broadway Pochantas.
According to the internet there already is a Randolph county nursing home .
So why do we need the tax burden to build a new one ?
if you bother to read on the internet you can google
county nursing home loses money
you will find several articles on why county nursing homes fail and what they are costing counties that still have them .
The best example is Jefferson County - Birmingham Alabama where the county is closing or selling the nursing home because it
LOSES 3 million dollars a year
so why does this county which is strapped for cash and wants to increase the sales tax need a nursing home ?
The answer beats me since they can not even manage to balance the present budget , how can they manage a more complex one ?
it's all about greed and who will get the money for such activities as the the architect ,building contractor ,land seller etc.
There will be cost over runs and then additional bonds will need to be sold .
It will not make a profit so there will be a levie on your property for the operating costs .
Do not forget about who will get hired to be an administrator , someone who knows the right people and who probably won't be even remotely the best qualified .
So let us see if topix deletes this or any new posts .

let them remove the threads, you just start another one...i will post again and again....this does upset me that that thread was removed, they allow people to start threads on other people and it somethimes get down right nasty yet they don't remove it...post something that is in the paper that all tax payers should know about...and BAM it's removed...

for once i hope the people of randolph county will show up to this meeting JULY 8, 2010 AT 7:00, from what has happened on topix's someone doesn't want this on an open forum, do they not want people at the open hearing also? better listen to the radio... date and time might change also.

If you look at the county census figures Pocahontas is not a retirement area . it has about the national average of age distribution.
It's not like Florida and there is no need for a new nursing home , if there was a private company would be building one.
What we have is an idea from the county blood suckers on how to bleed more tax dollars from us .
The only people who will benefit from this will be the politicians and their friends who will rip us off on the building just like the Million dollar cabins on highway 93.
Go to the meeting and tell them no
defeat this bumbling County judge in the November elections.

yes I agree it will bring jobs. Parasite Job,s paid for by those who are producers. And it wont show a profit. It like the city owned hospital and the county owned jail will lose money. It cost a person about $3000.oo per month for nursing home care. Go to the meeting ask for figures as to how much profit or more likely loss the present county nursing home has? Bet they dont tell you just talk and never give you a straight answer! I just dont believe there is a need the county should sell the one they now have.

The reason for the new home is because there is alot of problems with the old one after all it was a hospital along time ago. The people that are in the home should have a nice place to live. The rooms are to small and the people have very little provicy.

Before you bash a home for the elderly citizens of Randolph County ... Take a look at how many RANDOLPH COUNTY TAXPAYER DOLLARS will actually be used to build or fund this home. NONE. All the QC is doing is giving the board authority to proceed and secure a loan. The County taxpayers are not going to see a tax increase to pay for this home PERIOD.Get your facts straight

Again that is NOT true
If the nursing home Fails to be able to repay the costs of the Bonds just who do you think is going to have to pay for them ?
If you haven't figured it out , since they are in the name of Randolph county them the TAXPAYERS OF RANDOLPH COUNTY WILL HAVE TO PAY .
The Geniuses here in the county have come up with a scheme to get something for nothing .
County Government has No business being in the nursing home the Nursing home Business.
Why is it that Randolph county which can not even seem to manage it's budget and wants more tax money should be allowed to increase the debt for building a nursing home ? Jefferson County Alabama is selling their nursing home because it is losing 3 Million dollars a year and that is an expense that the property tax payers there have to foot .

So you admit that there are a lot of problems with the home !
It is in poor repair , the staff is not the greatest and can not spell the word privacy .
Lots of deficiencies on the last inspection and you want us to be responsible for a new home ?
If the thing was making lots of money why not remodel it ?
That's because it isn't making money and needs some repair work .
So fix it with all that profit !
Oh that's right there isn't any profit .
Who is on this nursing home board ? I can not find it on the internet .
Are these paid positions ?
They do have lots of influence on who gets hired there , don't they .
Just another dumb idea from the good ole boys in Randolph county.

I just went to the website Our parents that rates the county nursing home as a 2 stars out of a possible 5
so it's a dump and there is a comment that the nursing home director and it's board have
R E F U S E D to answer a grievance about poor care there
I bet they will answer when they get sued by one of these attorneys that takes on elder abuse at nursing homes.

i hope people will be there july 8, it doesn't matter if you're for it or against it, we have to become involved in our local county government.

after you have voted for these people that hold elected offices you really need to see them at work, you might still support them or you might not? it's just good to see your tax dollars at work!

if you don't vote? after being there you might decide to :)

Funny you should say: so happens the county attorney in Jones VS Randolph County is Rainwater, holt and sexton law firm. Google them. They are known for settling cases fast and going after train wrecks and nursing home neglect. Google them. What a waste of tax payer money, County dont even have a decent law firm hired for liabilities. Hell fire, TEA!

You folks should consider looking at Jansen, for county judge. Hes in bed with the Lobbiests already. They all fall for that free money and see and be seen elitisem. Never thought Id see the old judge once middle class working man turn politician. A little more time left to see how they act at them meetings and how much they hold their hand out to us tax payers who are already strapped. Hell fire. Fire them in November. TEA!

I agree ,something seems to happen to the middle class working man who gains political power , they somehow become rich in a very short time and it is the same length of time that it takes for their honesty and morals to evaporate
