I was shocked at the condition of the theater though. It seems that the professional appearance was all Kelly's doing. The lobby was bare except for a few pieces of discarded furniture and it was very hot in there. No decorations or even a simple flower centerpiece or anything. The stage looked as if it hadn't been swept in about a six months. The side wing curtains were missing and we could see straight back into the back stage area. I felt badly for the dancers who had to change costumes because the audience could see what they were doing. The backdrop curtains were bunched against the stage floor, instead of raised to create a solid line. There was a very large hole in one of the side curtains as well. And the shop light had been left on, so without the side wing curtains, the light from the shop shined right onto the stage.
Their sound levels were also off and one of the speakers buzzed loudly the entire performance. We couldn't hear a single thing from the singers, although I could tell by their body movements and muscles that they were singing very loudly.
These are all issues the Kelly would have resolved prior to the recital. Even though the Studio performance was only a one night recital, he had enough respect for the kids to make sure that theater looked nice. To me, it seemed as if the Imperial didn't feel a one night children's recital was worth the trouble. What kind of message does that send to the kids? They worked really hard in all their classes and then had to perform in a dirty, shabby looking theater. Frankly it's deplorable and I think Andee should be ashamed of herself for not taking better care of the place.
The whole place has gone to crap. But they can keep fooling themselves by doing runs of old tv shows to bring in an audience.

Forgive me, but I'm not really sure what you're talking about. Maybe you mean the old Imperial Theatre? The new one by Black River Tech was built by Andee and Kelly (and the board). It's only ever been the Studio for the Arts and the Imperial Dinner Theatre.

Looks as though they are having voting for awards on performances on their shows. Kind of like their own Tony's. Lol

Yes, grants and the community did supply the money for it. I simply meant it was the one envisioned by Andee Evers and Kelly Grooms, not the original Imperial Theater building near the court house (I believe it is Marr Street). They adopted the name of that building for their business over two decades ago and kept it when they planned out the new building across from Black River Tech. Now Kelly Grooms is doing his plays at the original Imperial Theatre building, although I am not sure what he is calling it now.

I am very excited to see Kelly's shows. It would be great to see some of the previous actors/actresses back on the stage in Pocahontas. More than a few left due to Shane's influence and Andee's support of him. I've been considering catching a show in Paragould at the Collins. I've heard they are doing some really great plays there, too.

Grooms has great talent. My parents are up in their 70s and always enjoyed watching him perform.

They have been doing some great shows. They also have Vicki and Derek which doesn't hurt things at all. They were both regulars at the imperial and now they are gone doing their own thing. Too bad they had to sacrifice so much talent for one mediocre performer.

Sorry, dear. I am NOT Miss Lisa. If you had read the previous posts, you'd know that I was at the studio WAY before her.:) Not to mention, since Miss Lisa is still working at the studio, I'm sure that she would bring her concerns to Andee so that they could work together and with the other staff, to address these problems.

Please don't start trouble for innocent folks, my words are not Lisa's.

Not sure some of these issues can be worked out. The ones concerning the condition of the Imperial could be fixed. But issues between former colleagues? Probably not.
