It seems that a lot of their old group are preferring to perform somewhere else. I wonder why that is?
I guess it depends on who you would consider to be the "old group." LOL I started taking lessons at the Studio about 20 years ago, so my old group and yours might be different.:) I might be able to tell you about some people in particular, if you'd like to ask names. Generally, the majority of people who are there have moved away for careers or don't have the time to devote to theater because of family obligations.

Grooms lives in Pocahontas and is doing shows in Jonesboro. Vicki just did a show here. Stuart is now in Memphis. Derek still lives in Pocahontas but is doing shows in Paragould. What about Rick? He was great. J.R. I heard had moved. Ken is doing a show in Jonesboro. C.J. I don't see her in any shows now.

Now I seriously want to know who you are, those are the same folks that I consider to be the "old group".(excluding JR, though) LOL I'm not really sure where Rick has gone to but I can ask around. One of the last shows I think I saw him in was "Oklahoma". Last I knew, CJ was still working at the bank. But I don't know if she's still doing any theater but she's on Facebook. Scott got married not too long ago. And of course, Miss Dorothy does a show every once in a while.:)

Are you perhaps mistaking Kelly Grooms for Todd Grooms? Todd was an officer in Pocahontas, though I am not certain what he is doing now or where he is living.

For those who were asking, Rick is working in Paragould and is just too busy to be able to be in anything right now. I am currently preparing for a run of Guys and Dolls in Paragould. Vicki is directing Young Frankenstein in Paragould which opens next month. Stuart has a show called Boeing! Boeing! opening this week. Kelly is directing The Scarlet Letter which opens tomorrow. I am sure we all have our own personal reasons as to where we choose to perform. Mine is that I am currently working with a group of people who share a lot of the same goals and ideas that I have. We were the first amatuer group in the state to perform Les Miserables this past summer and we are looking to do more large scale productions in the future. So for anyone wanting to know that is what is happening.

Thanks, Derek. I wish I could have gone to see that Les Mis production. Everyone has come a long way since Grease, which I think is where I saw most of the "old group" perform first. It's a too bad about Sleepy Hollow, though. Were you a part of Night of the Living Dead?

How sad that so many of you have so many completely negative things to say about the Studio wanting to provide positive experiences for youth through their classes and the dinner theater. Why do you guys have a problem with people having to pay to participate? Find any activity where you don't have to invest money! If you play a sport, you have to buy shoes and sometimes other equipment. What makes the arts different?

DOn't like theater? Don't go to the performances. But in a town full of drugs and other bad activities, why would we put down the kids and teens participating in the Studio?

My daughter took classes there for 3 yrs. The staff treated her - and me - like family. She hasn't been to a class there in 2 yes and they still all ask about us. What they do for local families/kids is GOOD! They provide good services to the Pocahontas area. Some shows are better than others, some performers are better than others, but I know that they sell out show after show, so they're doing something right. And the homophone comments are purely juvenile.

What ever happened to Kelly Grooms and the imperial theater company ? He put on some real good shows with little to nothing to work with in the past. I always admired the work he did with the theater co. I wish I knew why he doesn't seen to be involved with it anymore :-(

They let him go. Guess it was a bad deal. Not one of their better decisions, in my opinion. Another mistake they've been making is forcing people who have helped them in the past pick sides. Wonderful, artistic people, but poor business managers, I'm afraid.

I agree with that assessment wholeheartedly. The shows that Kelly directed were the best ones. He's a very talented director and actor. He could be strict about it, but it made all the difference between a mediocre production and an exceptional one. The guy that directs the shows now has a bit of an ego problem and doesn't have the talent to create a show like Kelly.
