How much will the yearly upkeep cost? Can Randco and/or the city of Pocahontas afford the ongoing cost of maintaining such a facility?

We don't need to build so big. I would rather see some substantial improvements made to the pool, and then some of our money spent on improving/adding other forms of recreation for our youth and community.
We don't need to put that much money into building, and then maintaining, just this ONE form of recreation that will be limited/controlled as to when it can be used due to scheduling conflicts, weather, usage fees, etc.

Every time a new idea is put on the table a bunch of nay sayers jump in and knock it. This town needs to move forward!!! The water park will bring in people from surrounding areas, they will spend money while they are here. This is just the beginning!! We need to vote yes, pay our 2.5% tax and get it done. Then we need to find other things to bring to Pocahontas to encourage people to move here. This is a beautiful town but it is slowly dying and it is because no one wants change!! Vote as you will but I am going to vote yes (twice), to growth!!

Why would we want to pay for something that we will never use? Pocahontas is dying because the powers to be want it that way,we need jobs,we need the streets repaired,we DO NOT need a water park.

The town is DYING. Hell look at the closed stores, closed factories and the houses and yards in general. No pay worth a dam, no jobs worth a dam, no leadership worth a dam except for a few of the city council who actually try.

THIS TAX IS NOT GROWTH!
it's a WANT!- by the minority who will use it.

for 3 months each year a few hundred folks may visit and may eat a burger, and move this town forward! right?

let's hurry up and spend $7+ mil and 1/2 mil a year on upkeep for a play pool for those folks!

the local folks paying the tax surely won't miss the necessities that money would buy!. right?

our businesses and households won't miss that 1% at all! right?

stop pumping sunshine, claiming wants as needs, and this project as some new beginning for the city.

this project is simply a BIG MONEY SUCKING PROJECT that a few folks WANT and are trying to convince us that we NEED.
we don't need it and MORE TAXES to GROW the city!

JOBS AND PAYROLLS makes places grow, NOT MORE TAXES ON THE LOCALS WHO LIVE HERE.

we need this 7.5 mil project and the 6-700k/year maintenance tax like a hole in the head.
the big wet dream is too big, way too expensive, un-needed for a town our size, and will never be used by a big majority of our taxpayers

what about the 9 months months it sits unused?
wise investment and money maker for the city?
or a over-built over-wanted dream that is not necessary and a waste of OUR TAX MONEY.

our 7.5 mil investment of OUR tax dollars will sit there, un-used for most of the year,, getting us nothing. the project is way too big and too expensive for this town.

<quoted text> Isn't the city attorney the main sponsor for this pool?
Is he the same guy who allegedly stole money from child support payments like Nick Wilson did?
Nick did the crime and did the time but did this guy get off without even paying back the $$ that was taken?
Or is this some other guy with a similar name and as the city Attorney he is really up standing and honest.
After all we all know that there never ever has been any corruption by officials in Randolph county.
Yep he is poky's Obama.

Lol,you are trying to compare pocahontas to Heber Springs with the lakes, rivers, nat.gas, located close to Little Rock and Paragould located close to Jonesboro also with a rail system, its easy to see why Pocahontas is in the condition its in,and it has half of the jobs it use to have, tell us how something like this will help when Poplar Bluff has a nice place and its got one factory closing and another about to close.

piss on the water park idea. how stupid can this idea be? tax for the hospital, yet it is losing jobs, laying off people, and eventually going to close.
last thing for the kids was the skateboard park and it was torn down with lies told as to why and promises to build a new one by the mayor who needs to just resign. the east side flooded not once but twice in just a few years with lame excuses given why this happened. drive thru town and look at the run down houses and building who will come here for entertainment with the nasty looking places on the drive thru town

He is just as honest as Obama. he is like most officials from Pocahontas he got mixed up and was charged for stealing child support. now you know why he may be so supportive for this water park something for the kids and he can get his hand in the cookie jar again.

Here is some advice. If you are going to compare cities, drive to the other and observe. You can drive in Paragould for a minute and tell that Pocahontas is no where near being that well off. And it did not just take a water park to crate that.

was in Paragould Saturday. they have more shopping and eating in one city block than the whole city of Poky. That means more people tp swim and splash. People will not come to Poky to just swim....u have to have more to offer to do than swim....look at an old railroad car...or wlk on a path around the park...or shop at Walmart!!! Theres a Walmart in every wide spot in the road. and most of them has a bakery....Deli...so on....TAKE BABY STEPS to all you want...not GAMBLE it all on 7.5 mil. right off the bat.

the pro pool folks and city council are depending on their supporters carrying the vote on this $7.5 tax, and half mil/yr permanent tax.

that is a lot of OUR MONEY.

THE ONLY WAY TO DEFEAT IT IS AT THE BALLOT BOX!

DO NOT forget to go vote against it!
and ask your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same.

inaction and not voting might ensure a pro pool tax win on this huge tax.
most probably do not need or want this tax, but will have to vote to prove it.

why. wouldn't you agree it's way to much for the usage #'s it will have and something else could be done much cheaper.

not to mention the $500k+/yr forever is also much more than we need to spend on park maintenance in this town?
