You can get killed walking your dog, whats the big deal about a cop getting killed? People die everyday, all around the world. It's his honor to die for the community. It's the officers job to die if the situation demands it. Especially if protecting others. I'm proud he's dead. I wish was proud of more officers in the same way.

If they wanted a safe job they should have gone to beauty school and learned to style hair.

If I remember correctly these two men had personal issues with each other. Not meaning to talk badly of the officer who was shot, but the two men had had issues before this. The officer was accused of having relations with the mans wife. Just pointing out that the man did not shot the officer simply because he responded to the call. He had intended to shoot the officer from the start for personal reasons. He deserves his sentence of life in prison for his actions.

You are right. A number of people in Pocahontas were surprised that it had not happened sooner. The ones that knew Scotty well. No excuse, but the Sullinger guy was very drunk at the time of the shooting.

I'm trying to find any information on my biological father. His name was eddie lowery, he was shot in 1982 while my mother was still pregnant with me. The only info i have is his name and that he was shot in front of the police station for shooting at a cop. I'm not even sure if that's the truth. I just really want to try to connect with his family and let them see his beautiful grandkids. Please help. I have a Facebook pag, under shanaree schupman, if any one has even the smallest bit of info it would help. Please ive been trying for years to find something out.

hi Shanaree I am proud to hear that you are Eddie's daughter. I knew Eddie back then. Yes your dad made a terrible mistake that took a good mans life Officer James Hand. The shot that night was meant for Don Garrett the other cop. Eddie had been seeng Dons daughter and Don wasn't very happy about it at all, as a matter of fact Eddie said that Don had threatened him if he ever seen her again that he would regret it. I don't exactly know what Don would do and Eddie said he harassed him a lot, because Eddie wasn't lets say from a uptown class area. Eddie didn't have a whole lot in life but he was great person that I remember as a friend that would be there for you no matter what. Eddie lay in wait for garrett in the yard, behind the shrubs. up from by the old police station that knight at shift change. He fired at garrett, but Hand was also walking in at the same time, it missed garrett and hit Hand I believe in the neck, he died shortly after I think. Then officers converged to the yard where Eddie was, they said he shot himself in the head, but I don't really know if I believe that or if their might have been someone sorta help him some. I just thought you should know that if Eddie were here he would tell you that he truly never meant to shoot Officer Hand. that doesn't excuse him shooting anyone I know. Just thought you would want to know about your dad, his brother he stayed with at the time was named Arlow Lowery they lived on north marr street across from the old community center. lots of luck and best wishes to you and your children.

Hand was killed in 81/82, his killer is in the ground. Scotty Bennett was killed on April 15, 1991. The person that killed Scotty tried to kill himself but botched it. He's doing life.
