Is this what you were looking for, or something more recent. There was another cop killed, I can't think of his name right now, on Pyburn street, in the late 80's or early 90's. The guy shot him and then shot his self in the face. I'm pretty sure the guy that shot him is still in prison.

It was Scotty Bennett, he worked for the Pocahontas Police Department, I believe. The man that shot him was named Sullinger and is still in prison as far as I know. Scotty is buried at Maynard and was a close friend of our family.

Scotty Bennett went on a domestic call and knew the guy. He talked to him and Scotty told him that if he needed him for anything to just call and he would come back to help. He called back, Scotty walked up to the house (against procedure for a domestic disturbance because he knew the guy and didn't feel like he was in danger), and Sullinger came out and shot him.

Let the scumbag rot in prison. ANY thug who murders another needs to hang from a rope! If the hanging tree was still around, there would be less crime. Get a gun permit, obey the law, and stop a criminal from trying to harm you and/or your loved ones.

jderbes, I can tell you what you want to know about the marshall who was shot. George Chevrie was my husbands great grandfather. He lived on a houseboat on the Black River with his wife and 4 or 5 children. They were poor, so George was a fisherman and also collected loose logs that came drifting by. He would tie them to his houseboat. He was accused of stealing the logs. When the marshall John Norris came by, George warned him not to step on the plank to the boat or he would shoot him, Well, the marshall stepped on the plank and George shot him in the head, killing him. They put George in the jailhouse, a mob formed a day or two later and rammed the door in, John Kizer was supposed to protect George, but could not stand up to all the men coming through the door. They took George and hung him on a bridge on March 23, 1901. [email protected]
