The rent is ridiculously high for what you get here and there are no jobs to speak of. There is nothing to do for entertainment in this town for kids or adults.

I wouldn't move here for anything. No good places to eat, customer service at local restaurants is very very low. Lie about what kind of fish they sell on the menu. Charge you for expensive food but give you a cheaper version. Give you old food that has been sitting for hours. Refried hushpuppies, and rubbery fish. Do you think they care about your health or how fresh your food is, or that you really really wanted that catfish not some cheap fish they subbed in and but charged you for catfish? You sit in one waiting for an hour for your food while everyone around you is getting theirs within 20 minutes. There are no jobs here. It's hard to find one unless you want to work for aid temp services and your job is usually temporary and they work you like a dog for 7.25 per hour. Its all about who you know and who you blow in this town. There is no recreation here besides a dinner theater that is really to high to go to. I've seen better shows for the same price in Branson. If I had to choose a place in North East Arkansas it would be in Jonesboro, and Paragould for higher pay and more choices of places to eat. I have lived here all my life and I have never seen this town worse than it is now. We are talking about over 35 years of seeing this town run down before my eyes. Homes are overpriced, utilities are outrageous. Example our water bill is always 85 dollars. 50 cents of that is for mosquito spray that does not work. If it worked I wouldn't care to pay it. But come on, it only makes them worse. When I first bought my home 18 years ago our water bill was 19 a month with all the same stuff still included. Almost all of my relatives have moved away and they will not ever come back. I am hoping as soon as I am done with my degree that I am working on we can relocate as well. I fear if I stay here my teens aren't going to be able to get a job here. They tell me daily they want to move. This summer when I graduate hopefully we can start fresh somewhere else.

Pay is way higher in those towns mentioned above too. I have a friend working in paragould making 18 an hour where here all they would pay him is 12 an hour and he was there for years working him like a dog. He has only been in paragould for 2 years at the same place.

There is a chicken processing plant coming in and the water park that nobody will be able to afford may or may not be built, we are hoping it never gets built.

Jobs are scarce around but, this is a good little town. It was recently rated the #1 safest city in Arkansas. Nice people who are always slurp porting their community. Obviously, there is always grumpy Gus's in every town. Theses comments are proof. There are jobs. They just may not pay as well in some.

i lived here in pocahontas area in mid 80s, moved away and saw the world. now i have moved back and opened my own business due to the lack of comparable pay in the area. paying experienced equipment tech $12 an hour is ludicrous and nearly slave labor. after learning of the outrageous cost of health plan for family and calculating fuel to commute, i quit after 2 days. would have been losing money to commute 15 miles. the roads are terrible and tear vehicles up in 2 yrs. it's not naysaying people, it's reality. water park=politicians term for swimming pool. taxes in pokey=9.75% and going up. hospital needs money and lacks competent personnel and going to raise taxes to put bandaid on it. jail overcrowded and needs funding. proposal to raise funds=higher taxes. do a little research and u will find out fbi presence thick here due to corruption of local politicians, police, and attorney office. throw in all the back stabbing and two faces and its a utopia. if this sounds like a place u want to live for the rest of your life i welcome u with open arms. f the man and down with the system.
