Cracker - I don't know but I am sure it will be tied up in probate and all that like most are once someone dies. I know Melissa has one adult daughter and I know that Roy also had/has family so it's anyones guess if it will be sold or kept in the family somehow. It is a beautiful place! It could be a while before anything is decided about it. You'll just have to keep your eyes open and ears to see what happens. Good Luck.

from what i understand this woman frequently loaded up her kithen with food that her five year old was able to prepare for himself, then locked herself in her basement for days at a time on meth binges. i heard he did not attend school for three weeks before he called 911 and asked them calmly if someone could bring him some food because he was hungry, and he couldn't go in the basement because it stank and there was too many flies. this is heartbreaking, and I have been praying for this child ever since i heard. i'm not saying that she was a bad person, i didn't know her. but if anybody knew that she was doing her child that way, they should be ashamed of themselves for not stepping up to help him before this happened. and why did the school never wonder why he suddenly stopped attending without a request for transfer? i wish they would be prosecuted.

I did not think the boy was in school. I don't know the family personally but this is a tragic situation. "heartsick" you are wrong, the little boy never called 911; concerned neighbors had a welfare check done on the home. This is a sad enough situation without people putting pieces in the puzzle that do not belong there.
If you can't say something good don't say anything at all.
A woman is dead, a child an orphan, leave these people alone, they have been punished enough.

This is a sad situation for the boy. Yes it is true his mother was a drug addict among many things. He didn't call the police though.

Wonder what will happen to the house? Would like to buy it!!
Roy had lots of problems getting the house built, he bought a log kit and by the time it was finished it was way over budget and still had structural issues.

OMG heartsick! This situation is horrid enough without you adding such fabrications to it. The house does not even have a basement. As really stated, the little boy was being home schooled and the mother was under investigation with DHS. If anyone failed the child it was DHS!

Back in 1988 I was pen pals with Roy Meeks. He was living in DC and I was in Springfield, MO. He flew into Springfield and we went to Eureka Springs for the weekend. We never had any more contact with each other until I by chance found him on FB about 2 weeks ago and asked him to be my friend. He never responded. Now I know why, from seeing his obit online that he passed away in April 2012.

In 1994 I was driving through Pocahontas from Atlanta, GA on my way to Springfield. I called his mother as I had not spoke with her since 1988 when I returned letters and pictures from our pen pal days. She said that Roy and his wife were traveling in Europe. But I noticed that Melissa and he were married in 2007. What happened to the wife he was married to in 1994?

I noticed in his FB photo his neck seemed to be resting on his chest. Did he have some sort of illness prior to passing away?

Call his ex wife, she can fill you in. Topix is not the correct venue for all this.

Well excuse me!!!! I don't know who his ex wife is. I am sorry I posted here. I saw his obit, I saw this page. I thought someone would be nice enough to fill me in. Apparently I was wrong. I will unsubscribe from this forum.

Missouri Gal - his neck in the photo you speak of was nothing to do with what happened to him for him to pass away. I believe he had a stroke prior to passing away and that was the reason of his passing. That was from injuries he got in the war. He and his first wife divorced and she is still around here in the area somewhere but do not know where. I believe her name is Carol, but I am not certain of that. Roy was a wonderful person and a great lawyer.

Well, I don't know but if his neck was from a war injury wouldn't Missouri Gal have known that ? Roy Meeks was not a great lawyer. He may have been a great soldier and person but not lawyer

He was a good lawyer as far as trying to help people and I know cases for people that he took without pay - that is what I meant by good - maybe I should have said good person -

When I first moved here in 98, I went out to Col Meeks's house to do some work on their dogs. At the time, he was still with Carol, and they had a little girl about 4. For about four years, I would either go to their house in Ravenden Springs or they would bring their dogs to me, the last year they came out to my house, they had adopted a little asian girl, probably four or five. It was sometime after that, he started going to law school. A few years later I found out he left his wife and two girls to be with this woman. If i'm not mistaken, seems like someone told me that he was with a woman who tried to sell her kids and eventually went on Oprah to be interviewed about it. I may be mixed up, but it seems like I was told that, but can't remember who even told me that. If I'm wrong about this, I apologize. I just remember thinking why would a man with this much education, not to mention a retired Col, get with someone with a past like that.
