If true we have lost a real true to life hero the likes of which is very rare. Colonel, thank you for your many years of service in so many areas that most citizens are not aware of lives saved by his actions.

Colonel Meeks was my company commander in Germany with Co. A 2nd BN 4th Infantry Regiment in 1973/74 when he was a Captain. Tough, wiry former Green Beret.

It was under him. The 2nd of the 4th provided security for Pershing Tactical Nuclear Missiles in Germany. Only Infantry unit to provide security for nuclear weapon systems.

His obit says he was awarded the Silver Star, was that a misprint?

Thanks for your service to our Country. All the perosnal and cheap comments aside, he was NEVER accused or charged like many around here with a Law Degree. He was a provider to our Freedom, and a brave man.
Prayers to his family.
Rest in Peace Sir.

Thank You for posting the funeral arrangements. I know many who want to pay their respects, if not because they knew him in person, because he was a true hero. Thanks also for those here who have said good things about him. As far as the other things, I think all of that should have waited until after he was laid to rest at least, if at all. Truth be known it really isn't any of an outsiders business what happens with his pension or anything person. That would be between his family (ex and present), his lawyer and those affected by this. Have a little respect if you will. Thanks.

Col Meeks was a great man and a TRUE hero. The cheap and worthless comments are totally unnecessary and really none of anyone else's business, as others have said before me. I realize topix has and is becoming a place for cheap and scandalous gossip and almost nothing more, but to disrespect a true war and local hero after passing is ridiculous, and one day you will pay, either by karma, or by judgment. May you all making sly remarks about his finances feel ashamed and guilty for what you've said about a man who fought hard for our free. Shame on you all.

Here is what his obit says about the medals etc. I don't see anything about the Korean war at all. Maybe you misread?

"While serving in the military Colonel Meeks attended Infantry Officer Candaite School at Fort, Benning, Georgia, upon graduation he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry. Colonel Meeks was awarded with the Silver Star, Three Purple Hearts and many other highly distinguished awards. Mr. Meeks also served with the CIA, served on the Joint Chief of Staff for President Regan and Bush, MOAA Officer Association and also a Officer Candidate Hall of Fame Award Winner."

I didn't misread, as you pointed out the obit says "silver star" and the only Roy Edgar Meeks that ever received the SS was in the Korean war, whict at that time Meeks was like 10 years old.
